Working under the supervision of the Senior Finance Officer, this role plays a critical part in ensuring strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and compliance with internal policies and donor requirements. Job Purpose The Finance Officer supports effective financial management across Light Up Hope’s programmes by maintaining accurate financial records, supporting budgeting and reporting processes, and strengthening internal controls. The role ensures that financial data is accurately recorded in the accounting system, that expenditures are tracked against approved budgets, and that financial reports are prepared to support informed decision-making. The Finance Officer works closely with programme and administrative teams, providing financial guidance, processing payments, and supporting both internal and external audits to ensure compliance with organisational policies, donor requirements, and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities Financial Records and Data Management Ensure accurate and timely entry of financial data into the accounting system Record actual expenditure in both the accounting system and budget tracking tools Identify and communicate gaps or inconsistencies in financial records to relevant staff Support the preparation of financial reports by providing accurate and complete data Review payment and financial requests to ensure compliance with internal requirements Maintain organised and up-to-date financial files and documentation Financial Controls and Compliance Ensure a clear audit trail for all financial transactions and their linkage to the accounting system Support the implementation of internal and external audit recommendations Assist with internal and external audit processes and documentation Ensure financial controls are established, applied, and maintained Maintain general and subsidiary ledgers and ensure regular reconciliations Budgeting and Budget Monitoring Participate in the development and review of programme budgets Provide guidance to programme staff on effective budget utilisation Support budget tracking and expenditure monitoring against approved budgets Flag variances and support corrective actions where required Payment Processing and Cash Management Process payment requests submitted by programme and administrative teams Communicate payment status clearly and consistently to requesting staff Ensure staff are informed of documentation and compliance requirements for payments Manage cash controls and ensure bookkeeping records are kept up to date Financial Reporting and Management Accounts Ensure all payment documentation meets required thresholds and standards Prepare monthly and annual project financial reports Produce monthly management accounts showing expenditure against budget Develop ad hoc financial reports to support operational and management needs Support the compilation, review, and analysis of financial statements Prepare balance sheets, income statements, expense reports, invoices, and proposals as required Ensure data integrity and accuracy across all financial reports Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Education and Professional Qualifications University degree in a business-related field CPA Part II or higher is an added advantage Experience Minimum of three years’ progressive experience in a finance or accounting role Demonstrated experience in project finance management and donor reporting within an NGO environment Proven experience producing management reports and financial analyses that inform decision-making Experience establishing and maintaining strong financial controls and best practices Practical experience with balance sheets, bank reconciliations, and monthly checks and balances Knowledge of the international regulatory environment for INGOs Skills and Competencies Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy Ability to build effective working relationships with non-finance staff Strong teamwork and collaboration skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines High level of integrity and commitment to Light Up Hope’s mission and values Equal Opportunity and Inclusion Light Up Hope is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
