Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) has announced a range of employment, research, internship, fellowship and field-based opportunities in Uganda and across several African countries. The opportunities cover public health research, clinical trials, laboratory work, data analysis, epidemiology, scientific writing and community-based research. MakSPH is part of Makerere University and hosts research programmes addressing major public health challenges in Uganda and the wider region. Intern or Mentee – Statistician / Data Analyst The Centre for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH Centre) at MakSPH is inviting applications for an Intern or Mentee – Statistician / Data Analyst opportunity. The position is classified as a long-term opportunity and is particularly relevant to candidates interested in statistics, data analysis and maternal, newborn and child health research. Deadline: September 30, 2026 Laboratory Technician – STOP-AMDR Project MakSPH is recruiting four Laboratory Technicians for the STOP-AMDR Project. Two positions require Lusamia language proficiency and two require Luganda. The successful candidates will be assigned to Buikwe and Busia districts according to their language proficiency and study requirements. The positions are short-term and report to the Molecular Team Supervisor. Deadline: September 21, 2026 Clinician – STOP-AMDR Project There are two Clinician positions under the STOP-AMDR Project. One position requires Lusamia and the other requires Luganda. Successful candidates will work in Buikwe and Busia districts, with placement determined according to language proficiency and project requirements. The appointment is short-term. Deadline: September 21, 2026 Molecular Surveillance Team Supervisor MakSPH is also seeking a Molecular Surveillance Team Supervisor for a short-term assignment. The position is based in Buikwe and Busia districts and involves frequent travel to participating health facilities. Candidates with relevant experience in molecular surveillance and public health research may find this opportunity particularly relevant. Deadline: September 21, 2026 Research Assistant – Kisoboka II Study MakSPH is recruiting three Research Assistants for field-based research in fishing communities under the Kisoboka II study. The work will cover communities in Nakasongola, Buikwe, Mukono, Kayunga and Buvuma. Successful applicants must be willing to relocate between field sites and travel to islands when required. Deadline: September 24, 2026 Intervention Facilitators MakSPH is seeking four Intervention Facilitators for the Kisoboka II study. The positions are based in fishing communities within Nakasongola, Buikwe, Mukono, Kayunga and Buvuma. Successful candidates must be prepared to relocate between assigned field sites as required. The appointments are full-time and field-based. Scientific Writer A Scientific Writer opportunity is available at the Makerere University School of Public Health. The position is based at MakSPH and is suitable for candidates with relevant scientific research and writing experience. Deadline: September 18, 2026 Qualitative Research Assistants MakSPH is recruiting eight Qualitative Research Assistants for research activities in Buikwe and Busia districts, with some interviews taking place at national level. Deadline: September 27, 2026 ACT-PREP PhD and Postdoctoral Fellowships MakSPH is also offering research fellowship opportunities through the ACT-PREP programme, focusing on clinical trials and epidemic preparedness and response research. The PhD Fellowships in Clinical Trials and Epidemic Preparedness and Response Research – Round 2 are available through ACT-PREP partner universities in Uganda, Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Rwanda, Senegal and South Sudan. The fellowships are full-time and have a deadline of September 30, 2026. MakSPH is also advertising Postdoctoral Fellowships in Epidemic Preparedness and Clinical Research at ACT-PREP partner institutions.
