The University of South Africa, through its Institute for Catalysis and Energy Solutions (ICES), is inviting applications for Master’s and Doctoral research positions at its Science Campus in Florida, Johannesburg. Selected candidates will undertake advanced research projects aligned with emerging global energy priorities. Each selected candidate will: Choose a specific research topic Develop a research proposal Defend the scalability and real-world applicability of their chosen project Only one Master’s or Doctoral candidate will be selected per research topic, ensuring focused supervision and specialised research output. Available Research Areas Applicants may choose from the following cutting-edge research themes: CO₂ Capture and Utilization Green Ammonia Production Hydrogen Production and Storage Fuel Cell Energy Systems FlexiCap Energy Systems Batteries and Supercapacitors Thermochemical Biofuel Production Fuel Production from Biomass Fermentation Biogas Upgrading These areas align with global efforts toward clean energy transition, decarbonisation, and sustainable industrial development. Academic Requirements Doctoral (PhD) Applicants Must hold a Master’s degree in: Chemical Engineering Chemistry Or a closely related postgraduate field The degree must align with at least one of the listed research areas Master’s Applicants Must hold a relevant Honours degree (NQF Level 8) in: Chemical Engineering Chemistry Or a related discipline Application Requirements Applicants must submit the following documents: A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) Copies of academic transcripts Names and contact details of two referees All applications should be submitted via email to the contact provided below.
