MSF France has maintained a significant presence in Kenya since 1996. The organisation currently manages two projects: one in Homa Bay County, supporting the Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital in managing adult medical and TB wards and chronic disease activities in decentralised sites; and another in Mathare, where MSF runs a 24-hour Sexual and Gender-Based Violence clinic and an emergency programme with a youth-friendly clinic in Dandora. The coordination office in Nairobi provides oversight and strategic direction for all MSF France operations in the country. To strengthen its medical coordination capacity, MSF France is seeking to recruit a Medical Coordinator Support based in Nairobi, with frequent travel to field projects. The position reports directly to the Medical Coordinator (MedCo). Purpose of the Position The Medical Coordinator Support plays an essential role in supporting the MedCo through delegated tasks and responsibilities, including administrative and programmatic duties. The position contributes to ensuring effective coordination of medical activities, fostering positive relationships with local and national health authorities, and maintaining high-quality programme management across MSF projects. All responsibilities must align with MSF protocols, medical standards, and hygiene and infection prevention guidelines, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients and communities. Key Responsibilities The role includes a broad range of technical, administrative, and supervisory responsibilities designed to support medical operations across all MSF France projects in Kenya. 1. Programme and Medical Activity Support The postholder supports the monitoring, supervision, and evaluation of medical activities across projects. Responsibilities include scheduled field visits, participation in defining human resource needs, and ensuring the application of MSF medical protocols and hygiene standards. The role also contributes to analysing epidemiological data and staying informed on national health policies through reports, meetings, and research. 2. Patient Medical Follow-up In collaboration with medical teams and supervisors, the Medical Coordinator Support assists in the medical follow-up of patients, ensuring continuity of care, appropriate documentation, and coordination of administrative and medical information. The postholder oversees medical expenses linked to patient care and supports discharge and referral processes. 3. Support to Project Teams The position provides direct support to medical teams, participating in recruitment, training, performance monitoring, and leave planning. The role also contributes to staff briefings and debriefings, fostering strong communication and professional development within the team. Supporting employee health policies, evaluating potential reference hospitals, and overseeing medical monitoring of MSF personnel are also key components. 4. Pharmacy and Emergency Preparedness In collaboration with the mission pharmacist, the postholder maintains and updates staff emergency and first aid kits in coordination offices and guest houses. This includes reviewing emergency preparedness lists and supporting regular orders in collaboration with the MedCo and pharmacy team. 5. Data Management and Reporting The Medical Coordinator Support contributes to data collection and management, ensuring timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. The role maintains strong documentation and archiving practices, ensuring data integrity across all medical reporting systems. 6. Additional Support Tasks The postholder may be assigned additional duties by the MedCo, including support to field teams during emergencies, participation in evaluations, or other tasks essential for strengthening project activities. Qualifications and Requirements Medical Doctor or Clinical Officer diploma Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience Experience or training in tropical medicine or public health is an advantage Emergency response experience is an added asset Strong command of English and Swahili Proficiency in basic computer applications (Word, Excel, Internet) Strong adherence to MSF principles, attention to detail, results orientation, flexibility, and teamwork Must be a Kenyan national with valid statutory documents (ID, NSSF, NHIF, KRA PIN) Application Process Qualified candidates are invited to submit a motivation letter and an updated CV as a single file, indicating “Medical Coordinator Support” as the subject line, through the application link provided by MSF Kenya Office.
