Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, is an independent international medical humanitarian organisation that delivers life-saving assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare. Guided by the principles of neutrality, impartiality, and independence, MSF provides care solely based on need, without discrimination. MSF Eastern Africa serves as the regional institutional office, supporting operations through staff recruitment, training, fundraising, communications, and strategic initiatives such as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), data protection, and medical operational support. As part of its continued digital transformation, MSF Eastern Africa is recruiting an Application Manager – Single Data Entry (SDE) to support a critical stock management application across the region. Role Overview The Application Manager – Single Data Entry (SDE) is responsible for overseeing the testing, deployment, technical support, and continuous evolution of a stock management application used in warehouse and pharmacy settings. The role ensures that the application remains operationally effective, particularly in low-connectivity environments common to humanitarian contexts. This position is functionally and hierarchically accountable to the Program Manager and plays a key role in ensuring system sustainability, user adoption, and operational readiness across MSF Eastern Africa. Contract and Package The role is offered on an 18-month full-time contract, with the possibility of extension. The position is based at the MSF Eastern Africa Section Office in Nairobi, Kenya, and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Key contractual details include: Annual salary of EUR 27,145 at HQ Grade 8 Annual salary increment of 2%, up to a maximum of 10 years Work-life balance financial benefit ranging from EUR 620 to EUR 1,159 per month Daily flexible working hours and up to two remote working days per week Key Responsibilities The Application Manager – SDE plays a central role in deployment, system support, and product development. Core responsibilities include: Deployment, Support, and Maintenance Providing hands-on technical support during application deployment Troubleshooting connectivity, configuration, and integration issues Supporting end-users to ensure effective application usage Ensuring system stability in low-bandwidth operational environments Operational Readiness and Support Structures Designing and implementing sustainable L1, L2, and L3 support models Developing and maintaining user documentation, FAQs, and training materials Training and mentoring support teams to deliver high-quality assistance Product Development and Testing Contributing to requests for change, bug reports, and user stories Coordinating test scenarios and validation environments Supporting service providers to ensure smooth feature development Stakeholder Engagement Acting as a liaison between project teams, IT focal points, and technical partners Ensuring consistent communication and alignment across stakeholders Required Qualifications and Experience Candidates must demonstrate strong technical expertise combined with experience in international or humanitarian environments. Minimum requirements include: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Systems or Information Systems At least 3–5 years of experience in application development and support Experience with mobile application development in hybrid environments (cloud and on-premise) Exposure to international or multi-country operational settings Familiarity with humanitarian supply chain systems is a strong advantage Technical and Behavioral Competencies The ideal candidate will demonstrate a balance of technical proficiency and strong interpersonal skills. Technical Competencies Software testing experience across the full development lifecycle Basic scripting or coding skills for troubleshooting and system support Familiarity with DevOps pipelines and containerisation tools such as Docker Knowledge of cloud hosting platforms, particularly Azure Experience managing Linux-based on-premise servers Strong interface troubleshooting and systems integration skills Behavioral and Professional Competencies Commitment to MSF’s humanitarian values and principles Cross-cultural awareness and adaptability Strong planning, organisation, and quality-orientation skills Initiative, innovation, and problem-solving ability Teamwork, cooperation, and people development skills Security awareness in humanitarian operational contexts What MSF Offers MSF Eastern Africa provides a supportive and mission-driven work environment with strong emphasis on staff wellbeing and professional growth.
