The Media Communication for Health and Development Initiative (MECOMHEDI) is a youth-led and women-led, impact-driven non-profit and non-governmental organisation dedicated to empowering communities through the strategic use of media and communication. MECOMHEDI works to address critical humanitarian and development challenges, with a strong focus on issues affecting women and children, while promoting sustainable development, public health, and community resilience. Since commencing operations in 2019, MECOMHEDI has played a complementary role in humanitarian response efforts by supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnee populations, and vulnerable host communities. The organisation collaborates closely with humanitarian partners, community stakeholders, and local institutions to deliver people-centred and context-responsive interventions. Organisational Focus Areas MECOMHEDI’s programmes span a range of interconnected thematic areas, including: Education in Emergencies Child Protection Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response Health and Nutrition Communication for Development (C4D) Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WaSH), with a focus on behavioural and communication components Through these interventions, MECOMHEDI seeks to strengthen community knowledge, improve service delivery outcomes, and amplify local voices using evidence-based communication approaches. About the Internship Programme MECOMHEDI is inviting applications for its 6-month Internship Programme 1.0, based in Maiduguri, across the following organisational units: Programmes Communications Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Human Resources (HR) Finance This internship programme is designed for highly motivated recent graduates and early-career professionals who are seeking practical, hands-on experience in the humanitarian and development sector. Interns will work under the guidance of experienced professionals and contribute directly to day-to-day organisational and project activities. Internship Learning Experience Interns selected for the programme will: Support project implementation and field-level activities Assist with documentation, data collection, and reporting Contribute to communication products and stakeholder engagement Support administrative and operational processes within assigned units Gain exposure to humanitarian programming in conflict-affected and displacement settings Participate in structured learning, mentorship, and professional development activities The internship offers a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience in programmes addressing the needs of women, children, and other vulnerable populations, while developing transferable skills relevant to careers in development, humanitarian response, and social impact organisations. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must meet the following requirements: Be a recent graduate or National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Hold a degree in a relevant field, such as: Social Sciences Mass Communication Development Studies Statistics Accounting Or other related disciplines Demonstrate a strong interest in humanitarian and development work Possess basic computer skills, including proficiency in: Microsoft Office Google Workspace Have good written and verbal communication skills Be willing and able to commit to the full 6-month duration of the internship Be comfortable working in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment Demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and high ethical standards Additional Information This is an unpaid internship Interns will receive: Practical professional experience Close mentorship from experienced staff A certificate of completion upon successful participation Female candidates and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are strongly encouraged to apply as part of MECOMHEDI’s commitment to inclusion and equal opportunity.
