The Mercy Corps is seeking a highly skilled professional to fill the role of Interim Deputy Director, Strategic Partnerships. Department Overview The Philanthropic Growth & Engagement (PG&E) department plays a central role in advancing the organization’s mission by raising flexible funding, strengthening influence, and enhancing global visibility. Position Summary The Interim Deputy Director leads efforts in donor communications, engagement, and strategic partnership support. Working closely with senior leadership and fundraising teams, the role focuses on building and maintaining relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors. The position requires a balance of strategic thinking, project management, and strong communication skills to deliver impactful donor experiences and engagement strategies. Key Responsibilities Communications and Events Implement and refine donor communication and engagement strategies across multiple channels Plan and execute donor events, including small gatherings, global conferences, and high-level meetings Coordinate and manage donor travel experiences, including logistics, itineraries, and follow-ups Develop communication materials such as: Meeting briefs and talking points Presentations and invitations Event scripts and run-of-show documents Track and analyze engagement outcomes to improve future strategies Provide communication support during emergency response situations Business Development and Relationship Management Support the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships in managing high-value donor relationships Develop and maintain partnerships with: Corporate donors Foundations High-impact philanthropists Create and edit key materials, including: Proposals and concept notes Pitch decks and reports Donor updates and stewardship content Prepare materials for donor meetings and presentations Organizational Learning and Accountability Dedicate approximately 5% of time to professional development and learning activities Support accountability initiatives aligned with international humanitarian standards Promote engagement with beneficiary communities as equal partners in programme design and evaluation Qualifications and Experience The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong expertise in communications, fundraising, and partnership development within a nonprofit context. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (or equivalent experience) 5–8 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or communications Exceptional writing and editing skills for donor-facing content Strong project management and organizational abilities Experience planning donor events and managing logistics Preferred Skills: Experience working with major donors, corporate partners, and foundations Familiarity with donor management systems such as Raiser’s Edge Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint Experience in international or field-based environments Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills Success Profile The ideal candidate is a strategic and results-driven professional who excels in managing complex projects and building meaningful relationships.
