globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

July 5, 2026

Description

Applications for the NGFP 2027 Fellowship are officially open, offering an opportunity for emerging futures thinkers to join a global network of changemakers. Interested applicants are required to submit their applications by 23:59 GMT+1 on 26 June 2026. Individuals seeking further clarification are encouraged to attend scheduled Q&A sessions, review past recordings, or contact the fellowship team via email. The fellowship invites a diverse cohort of visionary individuals and teams who are beginning their journey in futures and foresight. Eligibility includes applicants aged 18–35, as well as individuals over 35 with less than one year of experience in the foresight field. Understanding Foresight and Its Impact Foresight is defined as a structured and systematic approach to engaging with uncertainty. Rather than predicting the future, it explores multiple possible futures—including aspirational scenarios—to better understand the evolving environment. Through foresight practices, individuals and organisations gain the ability to: Anticipate emerging challenges and opportunities Strengthen resilience and adaptability Improve long-term strategic decision-making Enhance competitiveness in rapidly changing environments A foresight practitioner applies futures thinking to analyse long-term drivers of change, understand potential outcomes, and generate insights that inform decisions made today. The NGFP Fellowship particularly values practitioners who apply these tools collaboratively for social and environmental impact. The Fellowship Journey The NGFP Fellowship is a one-year programme designed to support project development, collaboration, and continuous learning within a global community. Participants embark on a structured journey that combines financial support, mentorship, and knowledge-building opportunities. Key elements of the fellowship include: A USD 1,000 kick-starter fund to initiate projects Access to a global network of like-minded peers Guidance from an experienced foresight practitioner Participation in an introductory foresight training programme Regular updates on opportunities, grants, and relevant resources Engagement in regional or thematic hubs Opportunities to participate in foresight-related events and initiatives Eligibility to compete for a USD 10,000 grand prize at the end of the programme This journey is designed to enable fellows to strengthen their capabilities while advancing impactful, future-focused initiatives. Eligibility and Ideal Candidates The fellowship seeks individuals who demonstrate a commitment to learning, collaboration, and long-term impact. Applicants are encouraged to apply if they meet the following criteria: Early-stage professionals exploring futures and foresight Individuals aiming to expand their knowledge and professional network Community-oriented thinkers committed to collaboration Innovators working on bold, systems-level projects Long-term visionaries focused on impact over a 10-year horizon or more Applicants from all global regions, with particular encouragement for those based in: Asia Africa Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Caribbean Central and South America Pacific Islands Balkans Foresight Transformation Missions The NGFP Fellowship prioritises projects addressing some of the world’s most complex and pressing challenges. These focus areas, known as Foresight Transformation Missions, include: Climate and Just Transitions Democracy and Sustainable Development Emerging Technologies Indigenous Futures and global foresight methods Health and wellbeing Intergenerational fairness Nuclear security and peacebuilding Rural futures Applicants working within these domains are particularly encouraged to apply, especially those proposing innovative and scalable solutions. Selection Process and Opportunities The fellowship is highly competitive, with only 25 spaces available per cohort. However, outstanding applicants who are not selected are invited to join the NGFP Sensing Network—a global community of over 900 practitioners, including 188 fellows. Additional opportunities include regional fellowships, such as: One dedicated space for a fellow from the Balkans Two spaces for fellows from the MENA region, in partnership with the Dubai Future Foundation These initiatives aim to ensure diverse representation and regional impact. Key Timeline 26 June 2026 – Applications close July – September 2026 – Evaluation and selection process October 2026 – Announcement of fellows December 2026 – Community event January 2027 – Fellowship orientation begins About NGFP The Next Generation Foresight Practitioners (NGFP) is an initiative of the School of International Futures.
