Nonviolent Peaceforce has announced a temporary, part-time opening for a Communications Assistant within its Resource Mobilization department under the NPUS division. The role is positioned as remote or Washington D.C.-based and reports directly to the Global Communications Manager. Role Overview and Purpose The Communications Assistant role is designed to support the operational execution of NP’s communication strategies. Rather than focusing on high-level strategy development, the position emphasizes day-to-day coordination, digital content management, and administrative communications support. The post holder is expected to ensure consistency across NP’s communication channels by maintaining workflows, preparing content drafts, organizing digital materials, and supporting publishing schedules across both social media platforms and the organisational website. This position is classified as non-exempt under FLSA regulations and is intended for candidates at entry level with foundational experience in communications systems and digital content management. Key Responsibilities and Duties The Communications Assistant will contribute to the organisation’s visibility and outreach through a wide range of digital and administrative functions, including: Formatting, uploading, and publishing content across social media platforms Ensuring accessibility standards are met, including alt text, captions, tagging, and link formatting Supporting translation workflows to extend multilingual reach Drafting and preparing social media assets using branded templates Editing short video content, including trimming, subtitling, and resizing for platform requirements Uploading press clips, blogs, and publications to maintain an updated and organized website Monitoring incoming engagement across platforms, including comments and messages, and escalating as needed Collecting and compiling analytics from social media and web dashboards to support performance reporting Monitoring breaking news and media trends to identify opportunities aligned with NP’s mandate Supporting updates to the Master Media List and consolidating contacts within Cision Tracking media outreach and coverage records in Salesforce Contributing to the production of regular newsletters highlighting media mentions and humanitarian news involving NP Performing additional communications and administrative duties as required by evolving team needs These responsibilities position the role as a critical operational support function within NP’s broader global communications ecosystem. Required Qualifications and Competencies Applicants are expected to demonstrate both technical capability and alignment with the organisation’s humanitarian mission. Education, knowledge, and experience requirements include: Familiarity with communications strategies, platforms, and digital tools Awareness of current events, social issues, and humanitarian contexts Interest in civilian protection and nonviolent conflict response approaches Ability to follow instructions accurately while working independently Commitment to collaboration and continuous professional development Strong alignment with the mission and values of NP Core skills and competencies include: High level of attention to detail in content management and publishing Strong written communication skills with clarity and conciseness Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion Capacity to work effectively in multicultural environments Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships Independent work capability alongside team collaboration Physical requirements include: Ability to work long periods at a computer workstation Capability to lift up to 15 pounds when required Application Process and Submission Requirements Interested candidates are required to submit: A CV not exceeding two pages A cover letter not exceeding one page outlining relevant experience and suitability for the role Applications must be submitted through the organisation’s official website.
