In Kenya, NRC works with refugees and displaced populations living in camps such as Kakuma and Dadaab, as well as in urban areas, delivering vital programs in education, livelihoods, shelter, and protection. Kenya currently hosts more than 400,000 registered refugees and asylum seekers, primarily from Somalia and South Sudan. The humanitarian context remains complex, shaped by recurring droughts, displacement, and restrictive refugee policies. NRC’s mission in Kenya is to ensure that affected populations can live with dignity and access opportunities for recovery and growth. Role Overview The Grants and Partnership Manager will play a central role in driving NRC Kenya’s resource mobilisation strategy and ensuring the quality, compliance, and sustainability of its programmes. The position involves developing and implementing a robust fundraising plan, managing donor relations, and overseeing the entire grant lifecycle—from proposal development and contracting to reporting and close-out. The role also includes leading NRC’s partnership framework in Kenya, supporting local and international partners through due diligence, capacity building, and coordination. Acting as a key liaison between NRC and donor agencies, the Manager will ensure that all grants and partnerships align with organisational priorities, donor expectations, and humanitarian principles. Key Responsibilities 1. Grants and Fundraising Lead the development and execution of NRC Kenya’s fundraising strategy, in close collaboration with the Head of Programme and Country Director. Identify and track new funding opportunities, mapping donor priorities and trends across humanitarian and development sectors. Coordinate proposal development processes, ensuring high-quality submissions that meet donor requirements and NRC standards. Maintain oversight of all grants and ensure accurate, up-to-date information in the grants management system. Support donor engagement efforts and strengthen NRC’s visibility and credibility among funding partners. 2. Partnership Management Support the identification, assessment, and onboarding of new partners in line with NRC’s partnership strategy. Oversee due diligence, capacity assessments, and the design of capacity-building plans for partner organisations. Facilitate contracting, reporting, and implementation processes with partners to ensure compliance and mutual accountability. Provide ongoing technical support and coordination to partner organisations, fostering collaborative relationships that drive impact. 3. Compliance and Coordination Ensure full compliance with NRC’s Project Cycle Management (PCM) framework and donor regulations. Support programme teams in meeting all contractual obligations, deadlines, and reporting requirements. Maintain a comprehensive overview of donor regulations and serve as the internal focal point for donor compliance guidance. Build internal systems and tools for effective grants and partnership management, identifying areas for continuous improvement. 4. Capacity Building and Team Management Lead and mentor the Grants Coordinator and Consortium Management Coordinator, ensuring professional growth and performance excellence. Build staff capacity in grants management, donor engagement, and partnership coordination. Contribute to cross-departmental collaboration to strengthen programme quality, efficiency, and impact. Candidate Profile Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree or higher in International Development, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum of four years’ experience in donor relations, grants management, or partnerships within a humanitarian or development context. Proven success in developing and managing funding proposals, reports, and partnerships with institutional donors. Strong understanding of donor requirements, compliance frameworks, and project cycle management. Experience working in complex environments, preferably with displaced or vulnerable populations in the Global South. Excellent written and spoken English, strong analytical and organisational skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Personal Attributes Exceptional communication and negotiation abilities.
