Consultant Opportunity: Documenting Lessons from Pakistan’s Large-Scale Food Fortification Program Nutrition International is currently seeking a qualified consultant to document program learnings from Pakistan’s long-running large-scale food fortification (LSFF) initiatives. This consultancy presents a unique opportunity for experienced public health and nutrition professionals to contribute to impactful knowledge products that support global nutrition strategies. Background For over two decades, Nutrition International has collaborated with the Government of Pakistan to implement and strengthen large-scale food fortification programs. These initiatives focus on fortifying staple foods such as edible oil, salt, and wheat flour to address widespread micronutrient deficiencies. With financial support from international donors, including Global Affairs Canada and the Gates Foundation, the organization continues to provide both technical and operational assistance to public and private sector stakeholders. As these programs evolve, there is a growing need to systematically document successes, challenges, and lessons learned to inform future interventions. Purpose of the Consultancy The primary objective of this consultancy is to capture and analyze key insights from Pakistan’s LSFF programs. The selected consultant will transform these insights into high-quality knowledge products designed for both technical and policy audiences. These outputs will play a critical role in shaping future nutrition programming, strengthening policy frameworks, and contributing to global evidence on food fortification. Scope of Work The consultant will undertake a comprehensive review and documentation process that includes: 1. Desk Review and Evidence Synthesis A thorough analysis of program materials will be required. This includes internal documents such as project plans, strategy papers, donor reports, monitoring data, and progress updates. In addition, the consultant will review external sources, including peer-reviewed publications, scientific reports, global guidelines, and relevant research on fortified foods in Pakistan. The aim is to synthesize findings related to the effectiveness, challenges, and impact of LSFF initiatives. 2. Stakeholder Engagement Regular consultation with the project team is a key component of the assignment. The consultant will schedule at least two meetings per month with designated focal points to refine content, discuss progress, and address challenges. 3. Development of Knowledge Products Based on agreed topics, the consultant will produce a range of outputs, including: Manuscripts suitable for submission to peer-reviewed journals Conference abstracts, posters, and presentations Case studies for internal and external dissemination Program briefs summarizing key findings Policy briefs targeting decision-makers All deliverables must meet high academic and professional standards and be suitable for global dissemination. Duration and Timeline The consultancy will span 18 months, from April 2026 to September 2027. The total level of effort is estimated at 100 working days, allowing flexibility in scheduling while ensuring timely delivery of outputs. Required Qualifications and Experience This role is intended for seasoned professionals with extensive experience in public health nutrition and technical writing. Key requirements include: Professional Experience A minimum of 7–10 years of relevant post-qualification experience Proven expertise in drafting manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals At least five published papers in recognized indexed journals Experience presenting research at national or international conferences Prior work with international organizations or NGOs on similar assignments Knowledge and Skills Strong understanding of public health nutrition, particularly in Asian contexts Familiarity with food fortification strategies and micronutrient deficiency interventions Knowledge of regulatory frameworks, quality assurance systems, and global guidelines related to food fortification Ability to analyze monitoring data and derive meaningful insights Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills Capacity to work independently while maintaining high-quality standards Application Process Interested consultants are required to submit a complete application package, including a proposal, curriculum vitae, and cover letter.
