This fixed-term professional role is designed for an entrepreneurial and analytical individual with 3–5 years of experience who is eager to contribute to the growth and performance of diverse agricultural value chains that serve smallholder farmers, with a particular focus on women and youth. About One Acre Fund Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund is one of Africa’s largest agricultural development organisations, currently supporting more than 5.5 million smallholder farmers across nine countries that together are home to nearly two-thirds of Africa’s farmers. The organisation provides a comprehensive bundle of services, including high-quality agricultural inputs, tree seedlings, accessible credit, modern agronomic training, and a range of market-oriented services that improve farm productivity and household resilience. On average, farmers supported by One Acre Fund increase their income and assets on supported land by more than 35 percent, while strengthening long-term food security. This impact is delivered by a diverse workforce of over 9,000 full-time staff, combining deep local knowledge with global expertise. Role Purpose The Value Chain Strategy Lead will play a critical role in analysing and strengthening One Acre Fund’s market access value chains. The position is responsible for applying the organisation’s winner value chain framework to evaluate existing and new market access businesses in order to inform resourcing decisions, guide strategic investments, and ensure measurable impact for smallholder farmers. The role sits at the intersection of strategy, finance, and programme delivery, supporting organisational decision-making while directly contributing to initiatives that expand demand for farmers’ crops, improve income opportunities, and promote inclusive economic participation for women and youth. Key Responsibilities Value Chain Analysis and Strategy The Value Chain Strategy Lead will lead rigorous analysis of active market access businesses to build shared understanding of performance, risks, and investment potential across departments. This includes conducting financial and operational assessments, supporting budgeting cycles, and contributing to capital expenditure investment cases. The role also involves leading due diligence for new market access opportunities that can sustainably connect farmers to markets, generate demand for agricultural produce, and contribute to the organisation’s long-term financial sustainability. Strategic recommendations will be communicated clearly to senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams to inform organisational priorities. Value Chain Development and Piloting The position holder will own the design and delivery of new market access pilots from end to end, working closely with country programmes to ensure alignment with farmer needs and local market realities. Particular emphasis will be placed on creating opportunities that benefit youth and women, both as producers and participants across the value chain. The role will also support country teams in strengthening value chain operations, including improvements in quality management, technical execution, and unit economics. This includes developing practical tools, sharing lessons learned, and strengthening operational discipline across diverse market contexts. External Engagement and Special Projects The Value Chain Strategy Lead will develop and maintain external expert networks to enhance market intelligence and execution in sales and market development. As needed, the role will contribute analytical and entrepreneurial expertise to priority projects across other market access businesses, supporting organisational agility and innovation. Eligibility and Qualifications Candidates must meet the following requirements: Experience: 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in strategy, consulting, agribusiness, market access, or related fields Core Competencies: Strong entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to learn new value chains quickly and navigate ambiguity Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to build and assess decision-grade financial models, particularly profit and loss statements Strong business judgment and data-driven decision-making skills Proven project management and organisational abilities Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to manage diverse stakeholders and exercise indirect influence across teams and leadership levels Location and Eligibility The role is based in Rwanda, Kenya, or Nigeria, with location flexibility across these countries. One Acre Fund is able to support work permits for this position; however, nationals of, or candidates with extensive professional experience in, the organisation’s countries of operation are strongly preferred.
