The Kenya program, operating under the farmer brand Tupande, is One Acre Fund’s second-largest initiative. With a workforce of more than 2,200 staff, it reaches over one million farmers nationwide. The program aims to deliver sustained food security and economic empowerment through scalable, farmer-focused interventions that promote productivity, environmental sustainability, and prosperity. The Role The Tupande Extension Coordinator, based in Kakamega, Kenya, plays a pivotal role in strengthening One Acre Fund’s farmer training and behavior change initiatives. Reporting directly to the Extension Lead, this position is responsible for driving excellence in training coordination, project implementation, and innovation in farmer outreach programs. The role requires a professional who can combine strategic insight with hands-on management, ensuring that all interventions are research-driven, scalable, and aligned with Tupande’s mission to create lasting farmer impact. Key Responsibilities 1. Product Research and Innovation The Extension Coordinator leads all extension research projects, including desk research, data collection, and stakeholder consultations. They are responsible for conducting qualitative and quantitative studies, collaborating with agricultural teams, and producing actionable insights through comprehensive reports and presentations. This includes identifying opportunities for new interventions and ensuring recommendations are aligned with One Acre Fund’s overarching strategy. 2. Trial Support and Execution The role oversees trial execution, from developing training materials and setting performance metrics to ensuring timely progress tracking and issue resolution. The Coordinator works across departments to design systems that support scalable and replicable trial growth, ensuring that lessons learned from pilot projects inform broader program strategies. 3. Scaling Trials and Systems Integration As trials transition into full-scale programs, the Coordinator ensures that trial specifications are effectively communicated to relevant teams and integrated seamlessly into Tupande’s operations. The goal is to institutionalize successful pilot projects and create a framework that promotes sustainability and operational efficiency across Kenya’s diverse farming regions. 4. Research Strategy and Performance Tracking The Extension Coordinator develops a comprehensive research strategy, setting clear objectives and measurable indicators (OKRs and KPIs) to evaluate performance. Regular progress monitoring ensures accountability, while data-driven insights support evidence-based decision-making. The Coordinator is also responsible for budget-conscious implementation and continuous improvement of research methodologies. 5. Innovation, Feedback, and Continuous Improvement By gathering field feedback and analyzing farmer behavior, the Coordinator refines intervention models to enhance adoption rates and farmer satisfaction. They work closely with cross-functional teams to identify implementation challenges and introduce innovative solutions that optimize systems and maximize impact. Core qualifications include: Proven ability in project planning, management, and execution, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience in data collection and analysis, and familiarity with systems thinking and coordination. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to train and engage farmers effectively. Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking capabilities. Demonstrated creativity in developing actionable solutions to operational challenges. Fluency in English and a collaborative, learning-oriented mindset.
