The Bergel Institute offers year-long Fellowships to individuals seeking to pursue intensive study and project development in areas that advance human knowledge and improve the human condition. Open to applicants of all ages, the program welcomes those who are not enrolled in academic programs as well as graduate students from institutions worldwide. The Fellowship is designed to foster research, creativity, and innovation, providing a structured yet flexible environment for significant intellectual and practical contributions. Bergel Institute Fellowships: Fellowship Focus Areas Applicants must develop projects within one of six broad thematic areas: Economics – projects addressing financial systems, development, or socio-economic research Science – investigations into physical, biological, or interdisciplinary sciences Technology – applied or theoretical work in engineering, computing, and technological innovation Consciousness – studies related to psychology, philosophy, or human awareness Health – medical, wellness, or public health initiatives Culture – projects exploring arts, history, social dynamics, or cultural expression Each year, the Institute provides a list of suggested Fellowship topics, but applicants may propose original projects aligned with the Institute’s mission. This ensures diversity and originality while maintaining alignment with the goal of advancing knowledge and human well-being. Bergel Institute Fellowships: Fellowship Structure and Commitment The Fellowship runs from June through May, primarily conducted remotely, with two in-person visits to the Institute’s headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Fellows are expected to dedicate approximately 20 hours per week to their projects. The program emphasizes continuous engagement and progress, offering: Monthly virtual meetings with Institute staff Quarterly progress reports to monitor development and maintain momentum Ongoing mentorship to provide guidance, accountability, and professional growth This structure is designed to create an incubator environment, encouraging Fellows to explore ambitious projects and produce tangible outputs that may continue beyond the Fellowship year. Bergel Institute Fellowships: Fellowship Benefits Fellows receive a stipend of $30,000, which supports their research, creative work, and personal expenses during the year. The stipend covers travel and lodging for two required in-person visits: August (end of Q1) – an initial presentation to Institute leadership, sharing early progress May (end of Fellowship year) – a final presentation showcasing accomplishments and future plans The Fellowship allows for flexible outputs, including: Academic manuscripts or reports Launch of a business, nonprofit, or research organization Multimedia projects, such as video series or documentaries Innovative deliverables that align with the project’s goals By providing both financial and structural support, the Institute ensures Fellows can focus on producing high-quality work that contributes meaningfully to their chosen field. Post-Fellowship Responsibilities: Bergel Institute Fellowships Upon completion, Fellows are expected to serve as mentors to future cohorts, passing on knowledge, insights, and best practices. This mentorship ensures that the Institute maintains a continuous learning community, allowing subsequent Fellows to benefit from the experiences and guidance of previous participants. Eligibility and Application Guidelines The Fellowship is open to applicants worldwide. Key eligibility points include: No university affiliation required; undergraduate and graduate students may apply Applicants may choose from the Institute’s suggested topics or propose their own No age restriction AI-assisted responses in the application are permitted Fellows must demonstrate strong intrinsic motivation, creativity, and commitment to completing their project While the program is mostly remote, the two in-person visits require travel, which the Institute fully covers. Applicants do not need a U.S. visa for remote participation but may require documentation for travel to Florida.
