Opportunity International is seeking an accomplished senior fundraising leader to serve as Vice President, Philanthropy – Southeast Region, a permanent role based in the United States. This position plays a pivotal role in advancing Opportunity International’s mission to equip people living in poverty with the financial tools, training, and support needed to build sustainable livelihoods and thriving communities. Role Overview The Vice President, Philanthropy – Southeast Region is a senior-level principal gifts officer responsible for identifying, cultivating, and stewarding relationships with high- and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families capable of making transformational gifts of $5 million or more. Reporting into the Philanthropy leadership team, this role is central to Opportunity International’s ambitious growth trajectory. As the organisation enters the planning phase of its next five-year strategic plan, the Vice President will help fuel rapid expansion in global impact through aggressive revenue growth and deepened donor partnerships. This position requires a balance of strategic vision, relational excellence, and disciplined execution, inviting donors into meaningful partnerships that deliver both measurable and lasting impact. Key Responsibilities The Vice President, Philanthropy will lead and manage a focused portfolio of principal donors while collaborating closely with senior leadership and program teams. Core responsibilities include: Managing and stewarding a portfolio of 25–50 principal gift donors Developing the portfolio to generate $5 million or more in annual revenue by year three Cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding transformational gifts aligned with organisational priorities Structuring philanthropic investments across multiple vehicles, including: Cash and major gifts Planned and estate gifts Endowments and donor-advised funds Non-cash assets Partnering with senior leadership, Board members, and programme teams to deliver tailored donor experiences Designing personalised proposals, impact reports, and stewardship strategies Serving as a trusted advisor to donors, ensuring transparency, accountability, and mission alignment Demonstrating measurable outcomes and long-term impact through thoughtful reporting and engagement Candidate Profile and Qualifications Opportunity International is seeking a proven fundraising professional with a strong track record in principal and transformational giving. Required qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred Minimum of 10 years’ successful fundraising experience Demonstrated success securing seven- and eight-figure gifts Consistent record of year-over-year revenue growth Strong financial acumen, including understanding of key financial statements Experience with a full range of fundraising vehicles for cash and non-cash assets Exceptional relationship-building, communication, and storytelling skills Ability to articulate a compelling case for Opportunity International’s mission and model Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity when working in diverse communities Comfort with public speaking, donor meetings, and social engagements Written and verbal fluency in English is required. Additional language skills are an asset. Travel and Safeguarding Commitment The role requires 25–50% travel, including occasional international travel. Opportunity International maintains a strong commitment to child protection and safeguarding, operating in line with international best practices.
