Pathways International is recruiting a National Lead for Italy to support the development of innovative, safe, and legal pathways for displaced people. This fully remote position is based in Italy and forms part of a global effort to reshape protection systems amid rising forced displacement and systemic disruption. The organization operates across more than 20 countries, working with leaders, policymakers, and innovators to design scalable and sustainable solutions for migration and refugee protection. The Italy-based National Lead will contribute to strengthening labour mobility pathways and advancing national-level coordination. Its work is grounded in five key pillars: Building and leading strategic partnerships and networks Providing trusted advisory services to stakeholders Accelerating operational delivery of programmes Generating and sharing actionable insights Inspiring systemic change across sectors Through these efforts, the organization aims to create durable, scalable, and inclusive migration solutions. Role Summary and Key Functions The National Lead will play a central role in shaping and advancing labour mobility pathways for displaced populations in Italy. Working under the Vice President of Global Partnerships and alongside the Director for Europe, the role involves close collaboration with national and international stakeholders. Key functions include: Coordinating national-level engagement with public authorities and institutional partners Supporting strategic planning and implementation of pathway initiatives Engaging philanthropic partners to mobilize financial resources Advancing innovative financing and operational models within Italy The role also requires alignment with broader European and global strategies, ensuring that Italy’s efforts contribute to wider systemic impact. Core Responsibilities The position involves a mix of leadership, coordination, and innovation. Core responsibilities include: Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination Build and maintain relationships with international organizations, NGOs, government bodies, and foundations Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among partners Innovation and Programme Development Design and implement innovative approaches within the Italian migration pathways ecosystem Leverage technology and financing tools to improve efficiency and scalability Partnership Development and Resource Mobilization Develop strong partnerships with philanthropic organizations Support fundraising efforts and financial sustainability of programmes Strategic Alignment and Local Integration Ensure coordination between national strategies and local (territorial) initiatives Strengthen linkages across stakeholders at different levels Candidate Profile and Requirements The ideal candidate is a highly organized and proactive professional with strong interpersonal and strategic skills. The role demands the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment. Essential Qualifications Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as: Public policy Political science International development Public affairs Strong understanding of: Forced displacement and migration systems Refugee protection frameworks Policy and political dynamics related to migration Key Skills and Competencies Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Italian Proven ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including: Government officials NGOs Private sector partners Experience working with philanthropic actors or mobilizing public funding Strong organizational and project management capabilities Ability to manage budgets, timelines, and cross-time-zone coordination Proficiency in tools such as: Microsoft Word and Excel PowerPoint Zoom, MS Teams, and SharePoint Demonstrated interpersonal skills and cross-cultural collaboration experience Candidates with lived experience of forced displacement, migration, or strong ties to refugee communities are particularly encouraged to apply. Work Environment and Contract Details This is a remote, full-time position based in Italy. The selected candidate will work closely with a global team while maintaining strong engagement with national stakeholders.
