The Opportunity Plan International is seeking a Head of Security Training Programmes to join its Global Safety and Security Team. This senior leadership role ensures that security management serves as an enabler of impact rather than a barrier to programme delivery. Staff and associates frequently operate in complex and high-risk environments, including conflict-affected regions. The successful candidate will lead the development and delivery of comprehensive security training initiatives that strengthen organisational resilience and capacity worldwide. The position requires significant international travel to deliver training, mentor security personnel, and strengthen local security systems. The role also involves close collaboration with Regional and Country Management Teams to promote a positive, inclusive security culture aligned with organisational values and its Security for All initiative. Key Responsibilities Security Training Design and Delivery Design, update, and deliver global security training courses and workshops. Develop complex technical materials, including first aid, trauma response, and crisis management modules. Ensure training reflects evolving global risks and operational realities. Trainer Certification and Capacity Building Certify trainers and oversee quality assurance standards. Manage induction and professional development programmes for security managers. Strengthen security leadership capacity across regional and country offices. Operational Security Support Provide expert guidance to regional and country teams. Promote inclusive and intersectional approaches to security risk management. Encourage effective incident reporting and embed lessons learned into future operations. Organisational Culture and Safeguarding Foster a proactive, inclusive security culture across diverse teams. Support safeguarding obligations and ensure alignment with child protection policies. Contribute to organisational resilience by integrating best practices into global operations. Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a seasoned security professional with significant experience in international contexts, particularly in high-risk or conflict-affected environments. Essential Skills and Experience Demonstrated expertise in developing and delivering technical security training content. Deep understanding of security risk management frameworks and assessment methodologies. Experience working in complex humanitarian or development settings. Background in international NGOs and leadership of diverse, remote teams. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence under pressure. Confidence in constructively challenging stakeholders at all organisational levels. High level of organisation and ability to prioritise in fast-paced environments. Proficiency in standard IT tools, including Microsoft Office. Fluency in written and spoken English. Desirable Qualifications Working knowledge of French or Spanish. Experience embedding inclusive and intersectional approaches within security systems. Location and Contract Terms This role is location-flexible within countries where Plan International has a registered office and can employ staff on behalf of the Global Hub. Applicants must have the pre-existing legal right to live and work in the chosen location. Employment type: Permanent or maximum fixed-term contract (in line with local terms). Internal level: Level 18. This is not an expatriate position. Salary and benefits are determined by location and will be disclosed during the recruitment process. The role requires up to 50% travel internationally to deliver training and support security capacity-building efforts.
