Plan International has launched a global recruitment drive for experienced Education in Emergencies (EiE) Specialists to join its international emergency response roster. The opportunity is designed for humanitarian professionals who can be rapidly deployed to crisis-affected regions worldwide to strengthen education programming and protect children’s right to learning during emergencies. The organisation is particularly encouraging Spanish-speaking professionals to apply due to anticipated deployment needs in the Venezuela humanitarian response. About the Opportunity The Education in Emergencies Specialist will become part of Plan International’s global humanitarian roster, a network of technical experts available for deployment to emergency operations around the world. Roster members may be deployed for assignments lasting up to three months, supporting humanitarian responses during natural disasters, conflicts, displacement crises, and other emergencies. Although roster membership itself is unpaid, specialists receive a competitive salary alongside: Per diem allowances Accommodation International travel expenses Access to online humanitarian learning opportunities Regular engagement with Plan International’s Deployment Manager Professional development resources between deployments The initiative forms part of Plan International’s renewed global strategy to expand the speed, quality, and scale of its humanitarian response capacity. Supporting Education During Humanitarian Crises The selected specialists will provide technical leadership to education programming in emergency settings while ensuring that interventions remain aligned with internationally recognised humanitarian standards. Responsibilities include supporting rapid emergency education responses while placing girls’ rights, inclusion, and child protection at the centre of programming. Key responsibilities include: Leading rapid Education Needs Assessments Supporting Multi-Sector Needs Assessments (MSNAs) Designing emergency education programmes Coordinating implementation with local partners Monitoring and evaluating programme quality Building frontline staff capacity Supporting learning continuity during crises Integrating education with child protection, nutrition, food security, and Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) programmes Representing Plan International within Education Cluster coordination mechanisms Supporting humanitarian advocacy and policy engagement The specialist will also help ensure compliance with: INEE Minimum Standards Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) Child Protection in Humanitarian Action (CPHA) standards National education policies Education Cluster response plans Focus on Girls and Inclusive Education Plan International continues to position girls’ rights at the centre of its humanitarian programming. The organisation expects Education in Emergencies Specialists to ensure that emergency education interventions are: Safe Inclusive Gender-responsive Accessible to vulnerable children Designed to improve wellbeing alongside educational outcomes Successful candidates will help strengthen programmes serving children, adolescents, and young people affected by humanitarian crises while ensuring that gender equality remains embedded across all activities. Who Should Apply? Plan International is seeking experienced humanitarian professionals with substantial expertise in education programming during emergencies. Applicants should possess significant experience working across multiple humanitarian contexts and demonstrate the ability to lead emergency education interventions from assessment through implementation. Ideal candidates will have experience in: Education in Emergencies programming Humanitarian coordination Emergency response management Capacity strengthening Partnership development Proposal development Donor-funded programme management Monitoring and evaluation Team leadership Professionals with experience implementing integrated humanitarian programmes across education, child protection, food security, and nutrition sectors are strongly encouraged to apply. Language Requirements While English proficiency is expected, bilingual candidates will receive particular consideration. Preferred language combinations include: English and Spanish English and French Knowledge of additional languages is considered an added advantage. Plan International noted that Spanish-speaking specialists are currently a priority because of anticipated deployments supporting the Venezuela emergency response. Funding and Partnership Experience Candidates should demonstrate experience securing and managing humanitarian funding from both public and private donors. Successful specialists will also possess: Strong networking skills Experience working with Education Clusters Ability to coordinate with governments and humanitarian partners Strategic planning capabilities Excellent problem-solving skills Strong safeguarding knowledge Commitment to Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH) Applicants are also expected to have completed HEAT (Hostile Environment Awareness Training) or an equivalent security course within the past three years.
