About Forest Peoples Programme (FPP) Founded in 1990, Forest Peoples Programme is an international NGO dedicated to securing the rights of Indigenous Peoples and forest-dependent communities. As of 2026, FPP operates in 18 countries and collaborates with more than 50 partners located across the tropical forest belt. FPP works at local, national, and international levels to ensure that Indigenous voices shape policy discussions related to: Climate change Biodiversity Business and human rights Responsible finance Environmental governance Gender justice The organisation supports communities in securing rights to traditional lands and territories, protecting forests, and influencing international regulatory and market reforms. Position Overview Job Title: Programme Assistant (Two Positions)Location: Remote (subject to time zone requirements) One position: GMT ±2 One position: GMT-5 to GMT+1(UK-based candidates may work hybrid or office-based if commutable.) Contract Type: Permanent employee (UK-based candidates) Consultancy basis (non-UK candidates, subject to local regulations) Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 FTE (depending on experience)Hours: Flexible (minimum 4 days per week; part-time or full-time considered)Deadline: 8 March 2026 (17:00 GMT) FPP does not sponsor visa applications for this role. Role Summary Programme Assistants provide broad administrative, logistical, and project support to one of FPP’s three core programmes. Reporting to Programme Coordinators, the role requires the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while working proactively under broad direction. The successful candidate will contribute to programme management, donor reporting, budget monitoring, event coordination, and partner communications. Strong writing skills and the ability to synthesise complex information concisely in English are essential. Knowledge of an additional relevant language is an advantage. Key Responsibilities Programme & Project Support Track deliverables, deadlines, and actions across programme activities Maintain internal knowledge management systems Monitor progress against FPP’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) framework Financial & Grant Management Track programme expenditure and monitor complex budgets Support donor reporting (narrative and financial) Compile and review grant applications Liaise with finance teams to ensure compliance and accuracy Meetings & Events Coordination Organise meetings, draft agendas, and take minutes Support workshops and international events Potentially travel internationally (1–2 weeks at a time, up to 2–3 times per year) Communications & Publications Finalise publications and support communications Prepare partnership agreements and consultancy contracts (using templates) Act as a contact point for programme-related information Partner Support Work respectfully with Indigenous and forest community partners Provide remote capacity-building support where possible Assist with reporting, planning, monitoring, and project management processes Essential Requirements Candidates should demonstrate: Experience in the not-for-profit sector (international focus preferred) Project administration and logistics experience Experience supporting grant and budget management Highly proficient written and spoken English Strong organisational and time-management skills Ability to work effectively in multicultural, dispersed teams Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel Availability for limited international travel Desirable Skills Experience working with Indigenous Peoples or Global South organisations Experience in regions where FPP operates Fluency in French, Spanish, and/or Bahasa Indonesia Understanding of human rights frameworks and environmental governance Experience in remote cross-cultural collaboration Knowledge of gender justice and responsible finance Relevant university degree FPP encourages applicants who may not meet every criterion but can demonstrate transferable skills, motivation, and alignment with its mission.
