About Prospera Prospera is a global membership network of 49 independent women’s and feminist funds working across 174 countries and territories. Collectively, members mobilize more than $300 million USD annually to redistribute flexible funding directly to feminist activists, organizations, and movements across the Global South and East. The organization is guided by feminist principles rooted in collective care, equity, justice, and power-shifting philanthropy. Prospera operates with a small but highly impactful global Secretariat team and works closely with members, allies, and broader social justice movements. Position Overview Application Deadline: 15 March 2026Location: RemoteEmployment Type: Full-Time (Executive Level)Salary Range: USD $92,000 – $124,000 The Director of Advocacy and Communications provides strategic leadership to advance Prospera’s global advocacy strategy through integrated advocacy, public affairs, communications, and research initiatives. This role: Shapes Prospera’s external voice and positioning Strengthens influence across policy and philanthropic funding landscapes Ensures messaging is consistent, compelling, and evidence-based Integrates data and research into advocacy storytelling Leads a multidisciplinary team The Director serves as a member of the Executive Team (ET) and works closely with senior leadership, program teams, and global partners to drive systemic change. Key Responsibilities 1. Strategic Leadership Develop and implement an integrated Advocacy, Communications, and Research strategy Advise the Executive Director on public positioning and reputational risks Align advocacy priorities with emerging policy opportunities and threats Oversee departmental budget Contribute to broader organizational leadership decisions 2. Advocacy & Public Affairs Lead high-impact advocacy initiatives Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, funders, members, and coalitions Oversee preparation of policy briefs and public statements Represent Prospera at high-level meetings, conferences, and media engagements Ensure advocacy work is grounded in strong research and evidence 3. Strategic Communications Develop a clear organizational narrative and messaging framework Oversee media relations, digital engagement, and brand management Supervise production of reports, multimedia content, and publications Establish rapid-response protocols for coordinated crisis communications 4. Research, Data & Evidence Supervise the Research and Advocacy Manager Ensure data collection, analysis, and visualization are high quality Translate research findings into advocacy and communications products Strengthen systems for data-driven decision-making 5. Team Leadership & Capacity Building Manage and mentor Advocacy, Research, and Communications staff Foster inclusive, collaborative, and high-performance team culture Build advocacy, communications, and data literacy skills internally and externally 6. Monitoring, Learning & Accountability Establish performance indicators aligned with the organization’s MEL framework Track reach, influence, and impact using qualitative and quantitative metrics Uphold safeguarding principles, ethical standards, and cultural sensitivity Required Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Policy, Law, International Relations, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience) 8–10 years of experience in advocacy, strategic communications, or public affairs within nonprofit or social justice sectors Minimum 5 years of team management experience Strong knowledge of development cooperation, feminist funding, and feminist philanthropy Demonstrated success influencing funders’ policies and practices Experience leading integrated advocacy, research, and communications strategies Excellent writing, editing, and public speaking skills Fluency in English (Spanish or French is an asset) Ability to navigate complex political and cultural environments Willingness to travel up to 30% Preferred Experience with US or European philanthropy Experience in international networks or organizations Prior Executive Team experience Working Conditions Fully remote (home office or co-working space) 35-hour work week (Monday–Thursday) Flexibility required for multiple time zones Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary: USD $92,000 – $124,000 Medical allowance: USD $5,000 annually (employee + dependents) Wellness & Family Support allowance: USD $2,000 annually Retirement allowance: 10% of basic salary Paid vacation and sick leave Professional development and training benefits Equity & Inclusion Commitment Prospera strongly encourages applications from: Women, trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals Racialized, Indigenous, immigrant, refugee, and other underrepresented communities The organization is deeply committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, and feminist principles of justice and self-determination.
