Description

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with Eco House Global, has launched a new online course designed to equip young people with the knowledge and skills needed to take meaningful climate action. Titled Youth for Climate Action, the programme is hosted on the Learning for Nature platform and is available in both English and Spanish. This initiative reflects a growing global effort to ensure that young people are not only informed about climate change but are also empowered to actively participate in shaping solutions. Programme Overview The Youth for Climate Action course is a free, self-paced learning programme aimed at increasing awareness of climate change and strengthening youth advocacy. It provides accessible educational resources while creating a global platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange among young leaders. Key features include: Fully online and self-paced format Available in multiple languages (English and Spanish) Open access at no cost Designed by youth, for youth The course builds on existing training initiatives implemented across Latin America and the Caribbean, incorporating proven best practices in climate education and advocacy. Why This Course Matters Young people represent approximately half of the global population, yet they are often underrepresented in climate decision-making processes. At the same time, they are expected to face significantly greater exposure to extreme weather events compared to previous generations. The United Nations Development Programme recognizes this gap and aims to address it by: Increasing youth participation in climate discussions Providing tools for informed advocacy Supporting community-level climate action Encouraging inclusive and participatory governance By equipping youth with practical knowledge and advocacy skills, the programme seeks to amplify their role in addressing climate challenges. Learning Outcomes Participants enrolled in the course can expect to gain a comprehensive understanding of key climate-related topics, including: Fundamental science behind climate change Pathways for climate mitigation and adaptation Climate governance frameworks and policy tools Opportunities for civil society engagement and advocacy The course also emphasizes practical application, enabling learners to translate knowledge into real-world action within their communities. Global Reach and Impact Originally launched in Spanish, the programme has already attracted over 4,000 participants. The introduction of an English version significantly expands its accessibility, enabling broader global participation. Through the Learning for Nature platform, the course serves as a hub for: Knowledge sharing among youth worldwide Networking and collaboration opportunities Access to climate resources and tools Engagement with global climate initiatives Collaborative Approach The partnership between the United Nations Development Programme and Eco House Global highlights the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in addressing climate change. The course draws on: UNDP’s global expertise in sustainable development Regional training experience from Latin America and the Caribbean Contributions from strategic partners and youth communities This collaborative model ensures that the programme remains relevant, inclusive, and impactful. How to Participate Interested individuals can register through the Learning for Nature platform. The course is open to all young people interested in climate change, advocacy, and community engagement. Participation benefits include: Flexible learning schedule Access to expert-designed content Opportunities to connect with global peers Development of practical advocacy skills Conclusion The Youth for Climate Action course by the United Nations Development Programme represents a significant step toward empowering the next generation of climate leaders. By providing accessible education and fostering global collaboration, the initiative supports youth in becoming active contributors to climate solutions and policy development.
