Global humanitarian organisation Concern Worldwide has announced a remote consultancy opportunity aimed at helping vulnerable communities benefit from stronger climate adaptation programmes and improved access to international climate finance. Concern Worldwide is seeking an experienced Climate Adaptation Consultant to support four country programmes in strengthening their climate resilience strategies, improving programme design, and increasing readiness for future climate funding opportunities. The consultancy, announced on 17 July 2026, will focus on helping country teams transform existing development and humanitarian initiatives into stronger climate adaptation programmes capable of attracting dedicated climate finance. Applications close on 29 July 2026, with shortlisted candidates expected to be reviewed on a rolling basis. Concern said climate change is increasingly contributing to poverty, inequality, and humanitarian challenges worldwide. Through its Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Policy 2026–2035 and organisational strategy, the organisation is working to ensure programmes are climate-sensitive while expanding efforts to build resilience among communities facing climate-related risks. Many Concern programmes already include activities connected to climate adaptation, including resilient livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, climate-informed health and nutrition initiatives, water and sanitation programmes, and natural resource management. However, the organisation noted that some of these programmes are not currently positioned as climate adaptation initiatives, limiting opportunities to secure dedicated climate funding. The selected consultant will work remotely with four priority country programmes to identify climate adaptation opportunities, strengthen programme concepts, improve climate funding readiness, and provide practical recommendations for future investment. Consultancy Focus: Strengthening Climate Programmes and Funding Readiness The assignment will combine programme reviews, facilitated workshops, technical coaching, and design support. The consultant will collaborate closely with Concern’s Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Unit, fundraising teams, programme staff, regional leaders, and country directors. Key responsibilities will include reviewing existing programmes, identifying interventions that contribute to climate resilience, and helping country teams improve the way climate adaptation objectives are integrated into their programme approaches. The consultant will support teams to apply programme design tools such as: Theory of change frameworks Objective trees Results chains Other climate programme planning methodologies Through workshops and coaching sessions, the consultant will help strengthen programme logic, clarify climate adaptation outcomes, and improve positioning for future climate finance opportunities. Deliverables Include Country Roadmaps and Climate Funding Strategies The successful consultant will be expected to deliver tailored workshops and programme conceptualisation sessions for four country teams. They will also produce country-specific recommendations outlining priority actions, future programme concepts, and pathways toward accessing climate funding. Additional deliverables include: A final learning workshop involving country teams, climate specialists, and fundraising colleagues Documentation of tested approaches, tools, and methodologies A final report summarising lessons learned, common challenges, and recommendations for expanding the approach across Concern’s wider climate portfolio The consultancy is expected to require approximately 18–20 working days over a 7–8 week remote period between early August and the end of September 2026. Each participating country programme will receive approximately four days of direct consultant support. Experienced Climate Finance Specialist Required Concern is seeking candidates with demonstrated expertise in climate adaptation and resilience programming, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected environments. Applicants should have: Experience designing and implementing climate adaptation programmes Knowledge of major climate finance mechanisms, including the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Adaptation Fund, Loss and Damage Fund, and International Climate Initiative (IKI) Experience developing concept notes and proposals for institutional donors Strong understanding of climate adaptation, resilience, and disaster risk reduction Experience working with NGOs or climate-vulnerable communities Strong remote facilitation and communication skills Fluency in French The organisation is particularly interested in professionals who can combine technical climate expertise with practical programme development experience and the ability to support teams across different contexts.
