SRIc invites emerging researchers to join Myanmar-focused sustainability and governance research programme The Shwetaungthagathu Reform Initiative Centre (SRIc) has announced applications for its Junior Research Fellow (Sustainability Lab) Internship 2026, providing an opportunity for young researchers to gain practical experience in sustainability research, policy analysis and public knowledge development. The remote, part-time fellowship is designed for graduates and early-career professionals interested in sustainability, governance, education and evidence-based research. Selected fellows will contribute to SRIc’s Sustainability Lab and the Myanmar Polycrisis through the Lens of Sustainability (PolyLens) project, supporting research publications, policy briefs and sustainability discussions. Applications close on 25 July 2026. About Shwetaungthagathu Reform Initiative Centre The Shwetaungthagathu Reform Initiative Centre (SRIc) is a non-partisan think-and-do tank and consultancy organisation that promotes sustainable governance, policy innovation and sustainability literacy in Myanmar. Through its Sustainability Lab, SRIc conducts research and analysis to support sustainable development and contribute to a more resilient, equitable and environmentally conscious future. The organisation’s work focuses on: Public policy research and analysis. Sustainability governance. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles. Policy advocacy. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) consulting. Sustainability roadmap development. With its motto, “Advocating Sustainability, Shaping Our Future,” SRIc works to connect research, policy and practical solutions for social and environmental transformation. About the PolyLens Project The Junior Research Fellow will support the Myanmar Polycrisis through the Lens of Sustainability (PolyLens) project, a structured research and publication initiative led by the Sustainability Lab. PolyLens analyses Myanmar’s complex challenges through a sustainability-focused framework and shares insights with the public through multiple platforms. The initiative includes: Weekly analytical articles published through The Sabai Online & Quarterly. Research commentary on sustainability and governance challenges. Quarterly publications compiling key research findings. The Sabai Podcast Series. Public discussions and knowledge-sharing activities. The project aims to strengthen public understanding of sustainability issues while encouraging informed dialogue on Myanmar’s development challenges. Fellowship overview The Junior Research Fellowship will run from: Start date: 1 September 2026 End date: 28 February 2027 Location: Remote Type: Part-time internship Duration: 30 hours per month for six months (180 hours total) The selected fellow will report to the Program Manager and work under the guidance of the Consulting Director and Sustainability Lab team. Key responsibilities The Junior Research Fellow will support research and communication activities through: Research and policy analysis Conducting primary and secondary research on sustainability, regional development and policy issues. Producing detailed analyses and insights for Sustainability Lab initiatives. Supporting evidence-based research activities. Contributing to research design and analytical processes. Publication development Writing and editing research summaries. Supporting the development of policy briefs. Drafting analytical articles for The Sabai publications. Conducting peer reviews to improve content quality and relevance. Supporting knowledge dissemination activities. Event coordination and stakeholder engagement Assisting with webinars, seminars, workshops and training sessions. Supporting sustainability and educational development events. Helping strengthen engagement with stakeholders and partners. Data management and collaboration Supporting the collection, organisation and analysis of research data. Ensuring research information is accurate and accessible. Working with senior researchers, junior researchers, research assistants and graphic designers. Contributing to high-quality research outputs aligned with SRIc’s objectives. Eligibility requirements Applicants should meet the following criteria: Be a graduate or between 26 and 30 years old. Have a strong interest in research, development and science communication. Possess strong organisational and project management skills. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Burmese. Demonstrate understanding of sustainability concepts, particularly Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Be able to work independently and collaboratively. Have a proactive approach to problem-solving and research activities. Skills and experience gained The fellowship provides participants with practical exposure to: Sustainability research methods. Policy research and advocacy. Academic and professional writing. Research publication processes. Data analysis and management. Stakeholder engagement. Public communication on sustainability challenges. Think tank operations and knowledge production. The programme is designed for graduates seeking to combine research excellence with practical solutions for sustainable development.
