Shwetaungthagathu Reform Initiative Centre invites young researchers to join Myanmar sustainability project The Shwetaungthagathu Reform Initiative Centre (SRIc) has announced applications for its Research Assistant (Sustainability Lab) Internship 2026, offering young researchers an opportunity to gain practical experience in sustainability research, policy analysis and public communication. The remote, part-time internship is designed for emerging professionals interested in sustainability, governance, education and evidence-based policy research. Selected interns will contribute to SRIc’s Sustainability Lab and the PolyLens Project, a research and publication initiative analysing Myanmar’s complex social, economic and environmental challenges through a sustainability-focused framework. About Shwetaungthagathu Reform Initiative Centre The Shwetaungthagathu Reform Initiative Centre (SRIc) is a non-partisan think-and-do tank and consultancy organisation focused on promoting sustainable governance, policy innovation and sustainability literacy in Myanmar. Through its Sustainability Lab, SRIc conducts research and analysis aimed at supporting a more resilient, equitable and environmentally responsible future. The organisation works in areas including: Sustainable development research. Policy advocacy. Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) frameworks. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) consulting. Sustainability strategy development. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). About the PolyLens research project The internship will support the Myanmar Polycrisis through the Lens of Sustainability (PolyLens) project, an analytical publication initiative led by SRIc’s Sustainability Lab. PolyLens examines Myanmar’s multidimensional challenges through sustainability perspectives and produces regular public-facing research content. The project includes: Weekly analytical publications through The Sabai Online & Quarterly platform. Research articles and commentary on sustainability challenges. Quarterly consolidated publications. The Sabai Podcast Series. Public engagement activities focused on policy and sustainability discussions. Through PolyLens, SRIc aims to improve public understanding of sustainability issues and encourage informed discussions on governance and development. Internship overview The Research Assistant Internship will run from: Start date: 1 September 2026 End date: 28 February 2027 Location: Remote Type: Part-time internship Workload: 30 hours per month for six months (180 total hours) The intern will report directly to the Program Manager and support research, communication and coordination activities within the Sustainability Lab. Key responsibilities The Research Assistant will contribute to several areas, including: Research support Conduct primary and secondary research on sustainability, development and policy topics. Collect and analyse relevant information and data. Provide background research to support Sustainability Lab initiatives. Assist researchers with evidence-based analysis. Publication assistance Draft research summaries. Support article development and peer review processes. Compile research findings for reports, articles and The Sabai publications. Assist with knowledge dissemination activities. Event coordination Support the organisation of webinars, seminars, workshops and sustainability training programmes. Assist with event preparation and coordination. Support educational development activities. Administrative and project support Schedule meetings. Prepare meeting notes and documentation. Assist with research project administration. Coordinate with researchers, assistants and graphic designers. Ensure project activities follow SRIc standards and procedures. Eligibility requirements Applicants should meet the following criteria: Be an undergraduate student or between 20 and 25 years old. Demonstrate strong interest in research, sustainability and development issues. Have good written and verbal communication skills in both English and Burmese. Possess strong organisational and project management abilities. Have a basic to moderate understanding of sustainability concepts, particularly Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Be able to work independently and collaborate effectively with a team. Demonstrate curiosity, initiative and problem-solving skills. Skills applicants will develop Participants will gain practical experience in: Sustainability research methods. Policy analysis and communication. Academic and professional writing. Research publication processes. Stakeholder engagement. Project coordination. Public communication on sustainability issues. The internship provides a learning environment for students and emerging professionals seeking careers in research, policy, development and sustainability sectors.
