A short-term remote consultancy opportunity is now open for a Research Assistant role supporting disability rights documentation and advocacy work. This position is offered by Transforming Communities for Inclusion (TCI) and focuses on drafting, editing, and structuring key reports aligned with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) framework. The role is ideal for individuals with strong writing, research, and editing skills who can transform raw materials such as notes, transcripts, recordings, and internal documents into clear, structured, and publication-ready reports. Overview of the Research Assistant Role The Research Assistant (RA) position is a fully remote consultancy running from 1 June 2026 to 30 November 2026, with a total consultancy fee of USD 3,500. The role supports TCI’s Secretariat team in managing multiple ongoing documentation workstreams. TCI works in the disability inclusion and rights sector, focusing on strengthening participation and leadership of persons with psychosocial disabilities. This consultancy contributes directly to producing high-quality knowledge outputs that support advocacy, policy engagement, and inclusion efforts. The primary responsibility of the Research Assistant is to convert unstructured materials into well-organized, consistent, and professionally written reports ready for dissemination. Purpose of the Role TCI has several ongoing programmes that generate large volumes of documentation, including meeting notes, recordings, and draft materials. The Research Assistant will help consolidate and refine these inputs into structured reports. The role is not focused on field research but on: Writing and editing existing content Structuring long-form reports Ensuring clarity, coherence, and consistency Supporting CRPD-aligned language and framing Improving readability for external publication This makes it particularly suitable for candidates with experience in policy writing, academic editing, NGO reporting, or development communication. Key Responsibilities The Research Assistant will support the Secretariat team across three main areas: 1. Drafting and Editing Reports Write full reports from existing documentation Edit and restructure draft content into final formats Ensure clarity, flow, and professional tone Maintain consistency across multiple documents 2. Organizing Documentation Sort and manage notes, transcripts, meeting minutes, and links Maintain clear version control (drafts, tracked changes, final versions) Create structured digital folders for each report Ensure documents are properly archived and accessible 3. Supporting Research and Referencing Conduct desk research where gaps exist Identify relevant policy and legal frameworks Add citations, references, and source links Ensure factual accuracy across all deliverables 4. Coordination and Communication Participate in weekly check-in calls with the Secretariat Provide progress updates via email or shared trackers Incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders Maintain responsiveness to timelines and revisions Key Deliverables The Research Assistant will support the production of seven major documents, including: 1. TCI Plenary Report (2024) A detailed 30–32 page report covering a major plenary on psychosocial disability inclusion. The report will be developed using concept notes, documentation records, and video recordings. 2. Five Country Mission Reports Five reports (each 20–22 pages) documenting country-level missions focused on engagement, capacity building, and disability movement strengthening. These will follow a shared structure and template. 3. Deinstitutionalization Webinar Report A revised and improved version of an existing report based on a four-part webinar series on deinstitutionalization, requiring restructuring, editing, and polishing. Cross-Cutting Outputs (All Reports) Each deliverable must include: Executive summary Introduction and background Key findings and highlights Conclusions and recommendations References and annexes Clear formatting and internal consistency Additionally, the Research Assistant will maintain: Organized Google Drive folders for each project Weekly progress tracking sheets Clean final versions in Word or Google Docs Proper citation lists for all sources used Required Skills and Experience Candidates should demonstrate: At least 2 years of experience in disability inclusion, policy writing, or research documentation Strong ability to structure and edit long-form reports Experience synthesizing raw qualitative data into clear narratives Basic understanding of CRPD-aligned language and disability rights frameworks Strong attention to detail and time management skills Ability to respond constructively to feedback and revisions Basic research and citation skills Preferred Profile Priority will be given to: Persons with disabilities Individuals connected to the disability rights movement Candidates with experience in international development or advocacy writing Working Style and Environment This is a flexible remote consultancy role with structured coordination. The Research Assistant will: Work independently while coordinating with a Secretariat team Join weekly virtual meetings Manage deadlines across multiple overlapping deliverables Use collaborative tools such as Google Docs and Sheets Confidentiality and professionalism are essential, as the role involves handling internal documentation and sensitive information.
