Key Responsibilities Conduct and publish self-directed, policy-relevant research in line with the Bank’s research agenda. Contribute to the development and enhancement of the Bank’s macroeconomic and financial modelling frameworks. Provide high-quality analytical and technical input to policy discussions and internal briefings. Collaborate with peers within the Bank and externally through research networks and academic partnerships. Support the broader goals of the RBA through innovative research that strengthens understanding of macroeconomic, financial, and labour market dynamics. Candidate Profile The RBA seeks applicants with a PhD in Economics (completed or near completion by mid-2026). Candidates with postdoctoral or institutional experience are encouraged to apply. Areas of specialisation of particular interest include: Monetary policy and its transmission mechanisms; Macroeconomic modelling, including DSGE and HANK frameworks, especially for small open economies; International economics and finance; Macro-financial and macroprudential policy; Labour market dynamics; and Applications of microdata and data science techniques to macroeconomic research. Applicants should demonstrate strong technical and analytical capabilities, familiarity with empirical or structural modelling techniques, and the ability to communicate complex economic concepts clearly in both written and oral form. Experience working in a policy institution or contributing to policy-focused research is desirable but not mandatory. Employment Terms Appointments are offered on a fixed-term contract, with salaries commensurate with qualifications and experience.
