Role Purpose and Strategic Focus The Research Fellow will contribute to a growing programme of work focused on how technological innovation shapes national security and geopolitical competition. Key Responsibilities The role combines research leadership, stakeholder engagement, and programme development. Research and Publication Conduct high-quality qualitative and/or quantitative research on technology and national security Produce policy-relevant publications in accessible formats Analyse emerging technologies and their strategic implications Communicate complex technical material in clear, non-specialist language Business Development and Funding Identify and secure new research opportunities and funding streams Develop proposals, concept notes, and responses to competitive bids Build a sustainable research portfolio aligned with strategic priorities Collaborate with government bodies, industry partners, and research funders Project Management Manage research projects effectively from design to delivery Ensure projects meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards Coordinate with stakeholders, partners, and funders throughout project lifecycles Impact and Engagement Engage directly with policymakers, defence institutions, and international organisations Build and maintain professional networks across academia, industry, and government Translate research findings into policy-relevant outputs and discussions Events and Collaboration Design and deliver research-related events, panels, and discussions Work closely with internal teams to develop interdisciplinary initiatives Contribute to cross-institutional research collaboration within RUSI Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong combination of research expertise, strategic thinking, and communication ability.
