Sankofa Impact Collective is seeking a thoughtful, people-centred Community Manager to steward and nurture its growing global community. This is a part-time, contract role, fully remote, and open to candidates worldwide. The position offers a meaningful opportunity to support Black women navigating leadership, creative development, personal transition, and long-term growth within a values-driven ecosystem. Sankofa is intentionally designed to be more than a digital platform. It functions as a living support system grounded in trust, care, and relational depth. The Community Manager plays a critical role in protecting this ethos and ensuring that the community remains a space of belonging rather than a transactional experience. Role Purpose and Significance The Community Manager is responsible for shaping and sustaining the day-to-day experience of the Sankofa community. This role ensures that members feel welcomed, supported, and genuinely connected from the moment they join through long-term participation. Without intentional community stewardship, even the most aligned mission can lose its relational core. This role exists to safeguard the heart of Sankofa by fostering trust, meaningful engagement, and alignment with the collective’s values. This is not a content-only or moderation-focused position. It is a people-first role that blends facilitation, coordination, emotional intelligence, and strategic community design. Why This Role Matters The Community Manager ensures that Sankofa functions as a dynamic, relational, and emotionally safe space. The role focuses on how the community feels as much as how it operates. Key outcomes of the role include: A welcoming and intentional onboarding experience A strong sense of belonging and trust among members Consistent, thoughtful programming that resonates with community needs A community culture that reflects Sankofa’s values of care, growth, and collective support Success is reflected in a community that feels alive, engaged, and deeply aligned with its mission. This includes shaping how members connect with one another and how they experience Sankofa’s programming over time. Key areas of responsibility include: Member Experience and Engagement Designing and managing welcoming onboarding experiences Supporting ongoing member participation and connection Creating conditions that encourage organic engagement without pressure Holding space for meaningful group interactions and conversations Programming and Community Strategy Supporting the design and delivery of community programming Ensuring programming aligns with member needs and Sankofa’s values Maintaining a steady, intentional rhythm of engagement activities Adapting programming based on community feedback and participation patterns Collaboration and Coordination Working closely with the Sankofa team to align community initiatives Supporting facilitators, contributors, or partners involved in programming Ensuring smooth coordination across community touchpoints Feedback and Continuous Improvement Gathering qualitative and quantitative feedback from members Observing engagement trends and participation signals Using insight and data to evolve the community experience over time Experience and Background The ideal candidate brings strong facilitation skills, relational awareness, and experience supporting community-centred environments. Formal titles matter less than demonstrated ability to hold space, follow through, and engage with care. Preferred experience includes: 2–5 years in community management, facilitation, programme coordination, or related roles Experience supporting online and/or in-person communities Strong interpersonal and written communication skills Comfort facilitating group conversations and relational engagement Ability to balance warmth with structure and clear boundaries Experience in mission-driven, nonprofit, or community-focused spaces (advantageous) Cultural fluency and sensitivity, particularly in identity-centred and care-oriented spaces A Note on Role Fit This role is well suited to someone who enjoys supporting people, creating meaningful connections, and bringing structure to relational work. Candidates do not need experience managing large-scale communities. What matters most is the ability to listen, facilitate, adapt, and act with intention. The role values care, consistency, and emotional intelligence over speed or volume. Role Structure and Compensation Employment Type: Part-time, contract Location: Fully remote (global) Time Commitment: Approximately 15 hours per week Compensation: USD $20–$25 per hour, depending on experience Growth Potential: Opportunity to increase hours and responsibility as Sankofa grows This role is best suited to someone seeking a consistent part-time commitment and an ongoing relationship within a mission-driven organisation.
