This full-time, permanent position is part of the Philanthropy team within the Supporter Engagement department. The role may be based in Melbourne, Sydney, or performed remotely. By identifying, researching, and qualifying high-value donors, trusts and foundations, and corporate partners, the Prospect Research Officer directly contributes to sustainable growth and long-lasting impact for children across Australia, the Pacific, and the world. A Place to Make a Difference The Prospect Research Officer supports Save the Children Australia’s fundraising strategy by generating high-quality donor intelligence that informs cultivation, stewardship, and partnership development. The role strengthens organisational capability to target resources effectively, deepen engagement, and build trust with values-aligned supporters. The officer’s contributions extend across the fundraising lifecycle, laying the groundwork for meaningful conversations and impactful investments in children’s futures. Key Responsibilities Prospect Identification and Strategic Insight Develop and implement an annual prospect research plan aligned with organisational funding priorities. Identify, qualify, and prioritise prospective donors including high net-worth individuals, trusts and foundations, and corporate partners. Produce comprehensive donor profiles, briefings, reports, and strategic recommendations using biographical, financial, philanthropic, and media sources. Analyse giving patterns, wealth indicators, and networks to support evidence-based engagement strategies. Ethical Due Diligence and Risk Management Conduct due diligence assessments to uphold ethical fundraising standards and protect organisational reputation. Ensure all research respects privacy, legal compliance, and sector best practices. Maintain accurate and confidential donor records within Microsoft Dynamics to support forecasting, reporting, and decision-making. Collaboration and Cross-Team Support Work closely with relationship managers to develop informed cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans. Provide tailored intelligence for donor meetings, leadership engagements, and strategic planning discussions. Contribute to donor portfolio reviews and strategy sessions. Strengthen internal collaboration across Philanthropy and Corporate Partnerships to maximise opportunities and alignment. Essential Skills and Experience Minimum three years’ experience in prospect research, qualitative research, or fundraising intelligence within a nonprofit or philanthropic environment. Strong analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to interpret complex data and develop actionable insights. High level of discretion and ethical judgement in managing confidential information. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in donor databases and research tools such as Microsoft Dynamics, WealthX, or equivalent platforms.
