Save the Children International is seeking a dynamic and motivated Innovation Intern to join its global team. This three-month opportunity offers hands-on exposure to innovation strategy, digital transformation, and impact-driven problem solving within one of the world’s leading child-focused organisations. Innovation lies at the core of Save the Children’s theory of change. The organisation leverages new ideas, emerging technologies, and creative ways of working to address complex global challenges affecting children. Through this internship, a passionate early-career professional will contribute to identifying, testing, and scaling innovative solutions that enhance impact across 116 countries. About the Innovation Team The Innovation Team accelerates progress through three strategic pillars: Adding Fuel: Fostering a culture of innovation across teams and country offices. Reducing Friction: Strengthening internal systems and processes to empower innovators. Clear for Launch: Identifying and scaling high-potential solutions, both internally and externally. The intern will support these priorities while gaining exposure to strategic planning, research, AI applications, and innovation programme design. Role Overview The Innovation Intern will play a practical and collaborative role in advancing innovation initiatives. The position is suited for someone who is: Curious and proactive Excited by experimentation Motivated by social impact Comfortable learning through doing Interested in digital tools and AI applications This is a hybrid/remote role with flexible working arrangements. The intern may be based in any approved Save the Children International office location, provided they have the unrestricted right to work there. The contract duration is three months, and English proficiency is required. Key Responsibilities The intern will contribute across multiple innovation workstreams: 1. Open Innovation Challenge Support the design and launch of an open innovation challenge. Identify high-potential external solutions aligned with organisational priorities. 2. Donor Landscape Mapping Research innovation funders, decision-makers, and funding trends. Map funding priorities and recent investments. Identify strategic entry points for engagement. 3. Innovation Pipeline Research Conduct structured desk research to identify 50+ promising innovations. Produce concise assessment summaries. Develop a shortlist of high-potential solutions to inform decision-making. 4. Innovation Astronaut Program Assist in designing and rolling out this internal capability-building initiative. 5. AI-Enabled Innovation Workflows Develop a weekly innovation trends newsletter highlighting tools, developments, and opportunities. Design an automated monthly funding email system. Enhance an existing AI Funding Opportunity Bot, improving features such as: Deadline tracking Relevance scoring Expanded data sources 6. Business-as-Usual Support Provide flexible assistance on additional innovation priorities as required. Required Skills and Experience The ideal candidate will demonstrate strengths in the following areas: Research and Analysis Strong desk research and synthesis skills. Ability to evaluate innovations and funding opportunities. Clear summarisation of complex information. Communication Concise and structured writing ability. Strong verbal communication skills. Capacity to present ideas clearly to internal stakeholders. Digital and AI Literacy Comfortable using digital collaboration tools. Familiarity with AI-enabled tools for automation, research, or summarisation (or strong willingness to learn). Project Management Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Basic planning and coordination capabilities. Education and Qualifications Essential: Recently completed undergraduate degree in a relevant field, such as: Innovation, Design, or Business Data, Information Systems, or Analytical disciplines International Development, Public Policy, or Social Sciences Equivalent practical experience or demonstrated capability will also be considered. Desirable: Participation in hackathons, case competitions, or personal innovation projects. Exposure to design thinking frameworks. Experience with experimentation or prototyping. Cross-functional project experience. Involvement with start-ups, incubators, or entrepreneurship initiatives.
