Seefar Foundation, a non-profit organisation working with vulnerable communities, is seeking a Journalist / Videographer / Editor based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to deliver a high-quality beneficiary storytelling video package under its MML project. This short-term consultancy is time-critical and will support Seefar’s communications, learning, and donor engagement efforts. Seefar specialises in justice, migration, and social inclusion, delivering counselling, research, and strategic communications across multiple regions. Its work focuses on enabling people to make safer, more informed decisions and to build sustainable futures within their communities. Project Background and Purpose Under the MML project, Seefar has implemented an initiative in Ethiopia supporting individuals considering irregular migration. Through one-to-one counselling, access to information, and skills training, the project helps participants explore alternatives, reduce risks, and strengthen livelihood opportunities within Ethiopia. This assignment aims to document the human impact of the project through ethically grounded, participant-centred storytelling. The resulting video content will showcase real beneficiary journeys and will be used for donor engagement, public communications, and awareness-raising across Seefar’s website and social media platforms. Storytelling Approach The video package will follow a multi-voice narrative structure, combining perspectives from: The beneficiary, sharing their lived experience and personal journey The counsellor, providing insight into the support process The trainer, reflecting on skills development and outcomes This approach is designed to enhance credibility, depth, and narrative clarity, while maintaining dignity, consent, and safeguarding principles. The consultant is expected to apply strong editorial judgement to balance emotional impact with accuracy and ethical responsibility. Key Responsibilities Video Production and Editing Film high-quality beneficiary interviews and contextual B-roll footage Edit and package video outputs suitable for web, donor events, and social media Ensure professional production standards, clear audio, and effective visual storytelling Deliver both long-form and short-form video content within tight deadlines Storytelling and Editorial Direction Conduct interviews in a respectful, sensitive, and participant-centred manner Develop a clear and engaging narrative that demonstrates programme impact Ensure consistency with Seefar’s tone, values, and strategic messaging Apply ethical storytelling and safeguarding principles throughout production Coordination and Reporting Report directly to Seefar’s Strategic Communications Lead Coordinate closely with the Project Coordinator on scheduling and logistics Incorporate structured feedback during revision rounds and meet fixed delivery dates Deliverables Priority Deliverable (Donor Event) One 4–5 minute video Landscape format (MP4) English subtitles Multi-voice narrative featuring beneficiary, counsellor, and trainer Final delivery by 4–5 March (non-negotiable due to donor screening on 6 March) Secondary Deliverable (Post-Event) One 1-minute vertical video Social media / reel format English subtitles or AI voice-over Can be finalised after the donor event Timeline and Availability This consultancy follows a fixed and time-critical schedule. Contracting completed by 3 February One day of filming scheduled between 5–8 February First cut of the 5-minute video due 12 February Two structured revision rounds Final approved long-form video delivered by 4–5 March Short-form social media cut finalised after the donor event Essential Criteria Fluency in Amharic and English Proven experience as a journalist, videographer, or video editor Strong storytelling skills within humanitarian or development contexts Demonstrated ability to manage multi-stakeholder narratives Ability to deliver time-critical edits for public or donor screenings Strong editorial judgement under deadline pressure Desirable Criteria Previous experience working with NGOs or donor-funded projects Experience interviewing vulnerable or sensitive populations Proven ability to produce short-form social media video content Familiarity with ethical storytelling, consent, and safeguarding standards Budget Applicants must submit an all-inclusive financial quote covering filming, editing, revisions, subtitles, and local logistics. Proposals will be evaluated based on value for money, demonstrated experience, and the ability to meet the required timeline.
