Its work is delivered through strong partnerships and a dedicated global team committed to dignity, accountability, and impact. ShelterBox is currently in a period of strategic growth, responding to increasing humanitarian needs worldwide. The organisation offers a collaborative, people-centred working environment where staff play a vital role in shaping effective, life-changing humanitarian responses. Each Emergency Coordinator is assigned to a specific region but remains globally deployable, responding to sudden-onset or rapidly escalating crises as required. The role focuses on assessing emergency shelter needs, establishing humanitarian responses, and managing projects at speed and scale in partnership with local and international actors. Emergency Coordinators are often the most senior ShelterBox representatives on the ground during emergency responses and are responsible for leading multidisciplinary teams, including response team volunteers. When not deployed, the role supports preparedness planning, regional project delivery, and organisational emergency response improvements from the UK or remotely. Key Responsibilities Emergency Response and Programme Delivery Establish, design, and manage emergency shelter response projects in line with ShelterBox strategies, policies, and humanitarian standards. Deploy to disaster-affected areas at short notice, acting as Project Lead where required. Assess shelter needs and coordinate timely, safe, and high-impact humanitarian responses. Support technical emergency improvement initiatives aligned with ShelterBox’s strategic objectives. Coordination, Partnerships, and Representation Build and sustain effective partnerships with local and international humanitarian organisations. Coordinate closely with regional teams and support functions including Finance, MEAL, Safety and Security, Shelter Technical, and Supply Chain. Represent ShelterBox with external stakeholders, humanitarian coordination mechanisms, and partners. Contribute to fundraising and communications efforts, including media engagement when required. Risk Management, Safeguarding, and Accountability Prioritise safety and security of teams by working closely with Travel Security Management. Apply strong risk management practices in volatile and rapidly evolving contexts. Ensure all activities adhere to ‘do no harm’ principles and safeguarding standards. Promote accountability to affected populations and uphold protection against sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment. Maintain high ethical and professional standards in line with ShelterBox values. Financial and Performance Management Manage project budgets effectively, working with Programme Funding and Finance teams. Monitor expenditure and ensure financial accountability across emergency responses. Provide regular updates on project progress, impact, and risks to internal leadership. Prepare and deliver written and verbal reports for internal and external audiences.
