TORONTO, Canada – Clean energy company Solar Panda is recruiting a Corporate Controller to join its global finance leadership team, offering an opportunity for experienced accounting professionals to oversee international financial reporting, compliance, and corporate accounting operations across Canada and Africa. About Solar Panda Solar Panda is a fast-growing Canadian clean technology company that provides affordable solar energy solutions to rural households across Kenya, Zambia, Senegal, and Benin. Using a loan-to-own financing model, the company enables hundreds of thousands of families to access reliable, clean electricity at a cost lower than traditional kerosene lighting. Corporate Controller Role The Corporate Controller will lead the company’s global corporate accounting function, overseeing financial reporting for the Canadian parent company and its five African subsidiaries. The position requires regular collaboration with international teams across multiple time zones and offers significant responsibility for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with international accounting standards, and improving financial systems. Reporting directly to the CFO, the successful candidate will help establish scalable financial processes capable of supporting Solar Panda’s next phase of international growth. Key Responsibilities The Corporate Controller will oversee a broad range of accounting, reporting, and financial management functions, including: Financial Reporting Responsibilities include: Managing the full accounting cycle for the Canadian parent company. Leading month-end and year-end financial close processes. Preparing consolidated financial statements covering the parent company and five international subsidiaries. Managing foreign currency translation, foreign exchange adjustments, and elimination entries. Reviewing monthly profit and loss performance across global operations. Coordinating annual external audits with group and subsidiary auditors. Preparing audit working papers and supporting documentation. Managing treasury activities, supplier reconciliations, and payment processes. Responding to finance-related stakeholder requests and business enquiries. Financial Controls and Process Improvement The successful applicant will also strengthen the company’s finance operations by: Evaluating and improving financial systems and internal controls. Ensuring compliance with regulatory, statutory, and tax requirements across multiple jurisdictions. Overseeing corporate tax filings, payroll taxes, and HST/GST compliance. Supporting transfer pricing and withholding tax requirements with external tax advisors. Monitoring financial and operational risks while implementing mitigation strategies. Leading enterprise resource planning (ERP) improvements and finance automation initiatives. Building scalable accounting processes that support international business expansion. What Success Looks Like Solar Panda has outlined several performance goals expected during the successful candidate’s first year in the role. These include: Delivering a faster, more accurate, and highly automated monthly financial close process across all entities. Developing scalable financial controls that significantly reduce manual processes. Successfully coordinating annual audits with minimal adjustments and strong supporting documentation. Strengthening financial reporting infrastructure to support future geographic expansion. Qualifications and Experience Solar Panda is seeking an experienced finance professional with strong technical accounting expertise and international reporting experience. Applicants should possess: An active Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing. At least seven years of progressive accounting experience. Two to three years of experience managing multi-entity global financial consolidations under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), which is strongly preferred. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Practical experience using QuickBooks. Demonstrated success coordinating international external audits. Experience managing complex cross-border tax workflows. Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy. Ability to work independently while collaborating with international teams.
