Role Overview: Regional Manager, Behaviour Change The Regional Manager, Behaviour Change is a senior leadership role responsible for designing, adapting, and ensuring high-quality implementation of behaviour change programmes across multiple African country operations. This role translates global behaviour change strategies into practical, context-specific interventions while ensuring consistent delivery across countries. It combines strategic oversight with hands-on technical support to country teams and implementing partners. Key operational focus countries include: Zambia Ethiopia Malawi The role is open to nationals of Sub-Saharan African countries based in Africa with relevant regional experience. Strategic Purpose of the Role The position ensures that behaviour change programming is: Evidence-based and contextually relevant Properly integrated into WASH school programmes Consistently implemented across different countries Continuously improved using data and learning systems The role also supports long-term sustainability by ensuring that behavioural interventions lead to increased use of WASH infrastructure and improved hygiene practices among school children. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Guide the design and direction of behaviour change (BC) programmes across the region Align interventions with organisational goals and evidence-based frameworks Identify opportunities to scale and innovate behaviour change solutions in WASH programming Country Programme Support Provide technical guidance to country teams in Zambia, Ethiopia, and Malawi Support adaptation of behaviour change strategies in schools and communities Ensure quality assurance systems are implemented consistently across countries Maintain programme fidelity while supporting contextual adaptation Partner Engagement and Capacity Building Work closely with NGOs, government partners, and implementing organisations Provide training, coaching, and technical support in behaviour change methodologies Strengthen local capacity in formative research, programme design, and delivery Support partner ownership of behaviour change initiatives Programme Design and Innovation Contribute to ongoing programme design processes in pilot countries Integrate innovative approaches such as: Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) Social norms programming Digital behaviour change tools Community engagement strategies Strengthen integration of behaviour change within broader WASH programmes Monitoring, Learning, and Adaptation Collaborate with monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) teams Develop behavioural indicators and measurement systems Use data to refine and improve programme performance Document lessons learned for regional and global use Cross-Functional Collaboration Work with country leadership, programme teams, and global staff Contribute to programme design, funding proposals, and organisational learning Ensure integration of behaviour change across infrastructure and service delivery systems External Representation Represent Splash in technical forums, conferences, and sector networks Contribute to research publications and knowledge-sharing platforms Support thought leadership in WASH and behaviour change programming Regional Coordination Oversee behaviour change programme delivery across multiple countries Ensure alignment between infrastructure rollout and behavioural interventions Act as a link between country teams and global behaviour change leadership Facilitate cross-country learning and quality assurance systems Qualifications and Experience The ideal candidate is a behaviour change specialist with strong expertise in behavioural science and programme implementation.
