Steinmüller Africa is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Financial Manager to join its operations in Sandton, Gauteng. This permanent, mid-to-senior level role sits within the construction industry and offers an opportunity to lead and strengthen the organisation’s financial, treasury, and risk management functions within a complex, project-driven environment. The position is ideal for a finance professional with strong leadership capability, deep technical expertise, and a proven track record in managing financial performance, governance, and compliance in large or multi-entity organisations. Role Overview and Purpose The primary purpose of the Financial Manager role is to oversee all aspects of financial and treasury management across the business. This includes financial and management reporting, budgeting and forecasting, internal controls, compliance, and strategic financial support to business units and leadership. The role plays a critical part in ensuring financial integrity, operational efficiency, and alignment with both local and international reporting requirements, including coordination with the company’s head office in Germany. Key Performance Areas Financial Controlling and Reporting The Financial Manager is responsible for driving robust financial control and performance management across the organisation. Key responsibilities include: Setting financial targets and monitoring performance across business units and departments Coordinating the preparation of annual budgets and reporting on variances Preparing and reviewing Balance Sheets, Profit and Loss statements, Cash Flow reports, and Working Capital Management (WCM) metrics Developing and maintaining financial forecasting models Managing monthly management reporting timelines and deliverables Monitoring project results and forecasts on a monthly basis Coordinating all financial and management reporting to Head Office in Germany Leading and supporting continuous improvement initiatives Finance and Accounting Management This role provides end-to-end oversight of the accounting and financial reporting function. Core responsibilities include: Ensuring quality control over all financial transactions and reports Managing the full accounting function Coordinating month-end and year-end close processes Researching and resolving technical accounting issues Ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation and accounting standards Implementing initiatives to improve the organisation’s working capital position Treasury Management The Financial Manager takes ownership of treasury operations and liquidity management. Responsibilities include: Managing the full cash management process Ensuring effective cash flow forecasting and net liquidity management Maintaining relationships with banking partners Liaising directly with the Bank Manager on financial and operational matters Risk Management and Insurance The role includes responsibility for identifying, mitigating, and managing financial and operational risks. Key duties include: Managing insurance policies and bank guarantees Overseeing insurance claims processes Identifying opportunities to reduce insurable and non-insurable risks Optimising the balance between risk exposure and insurance coverage Systems Support and Digital Enablement The Financial Manager ensures the reliability and effectiveness of financial systems. This includes: Ensuring availability and effective support of ERP systems Supporting the use of technology to improve data accuracy and reporting efficiency Taxation and Compliance Tax compliance and advisory support form a critical component of the role. Responsibilities include: Ensuring compliance with all applicable tax legislation Managing timely submission of all tax returns Providing guidance on transactions with tax implications Ensuring accuracy of tax calculations and estimates Staying current with changes in tax laws affecting the business Leadership, Governance, and Other Responsibilities Additional responsibilities include: Managing special projects as required Maintaining and implementing finance-related policies and procedures Ensuring effective document management within the finance department Recruiting, developing, and retaining finance talent in line with transformation and BEE requirements Leading, motivating, and managing team performance Performing other job-related duties as required Core Competencies and Skills The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership capability, and strategic thinking.
