Location: Nairobi, KenyaContract: National contract under Kenya labour law, 24 months About Terre des hommes Kenya Active in Kenya since 2011, Terre des hommes focuses on protecting children and supporting families affected by: Migration Drought Poverty The organisation operates across multiple regions, including Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps, Kalobeyei settlement, and surrounding host communities. Key programmes include: Child protection and safeguarding Health and nutrition services Mobility and migration support Child Rights in Business programme in Kiambu County to prevent child labour in coffee-producing areas Past projects have also included WASH and health interventions in Garissa County. Role Overview The Country Director reports to the Africa Regional Director and ensures smooth functioning of operations at the national level. The role combines strategic leadership, operational management, representation, and accountability. The Country Director will: Represent the Foundation legally and operationally in Kenya Lead all programmes and staff within the delegation Develop and implement the strategic and annual operational plans Ensure operational risk management, security, and safety for staff and beneficiaries Oversee finance, logistics, HR, and programme management Maintain internal and external communications and accountability to stakeholders Promote ethical leadership and uphold the organisation’s values Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Management Develop Kenya’s delegation strategic plan in collaboration with program and fundraising teams Supervise all operational, programmatic, and administrative activities Lead and mentor staff to ensure alignment with organisational goals Representation & Advocacy Represent Terre des hommes nationally, including legally Promote the organisation’s mandate to stakeholders, partners, and donors Operational Oversight Manage risk, safety, and security systems for staff and operations Ensure compliance with policies, codes of conduct, and security protocols Supervise HR, finance, and logistics processes Reporting & Accountability Ensure regular reporting to Africa Regional Director and donors Maintain accountability to beneficiaries, communities, and stakeholders Candidate Profile Education: Master’s degree in management or relevant programme/expertise Experience: Minimum 10 years of professional experience At least 5 years in a senior management role Languages: Fluent in English (written and spoken) French language skills are an asset Personal Competencies: Ethical and exemplary leadership Strategic and operational acumen Strong risk management and safeguarding awareness Conditions Salary according to Tdh Kenya salary grid Full-time, national contract Application Procedure Submit CV + Cover Letter via the official Terre des hommes career site Additional documents (diplomas, work certificates) requested later Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted References and pre-employment checks (criminal record, anti-terrorism funding, safeguarding, fraud/corruption) required This is a strategic leadership role offering the opportunity to make a significant impact on child protection and rights in Kenya, guiding programmes across multiple humanitarian contexts while representing a leading international NGO.
