AAS is seeking a highly competent and proactive Human Resources Officer to join its Human Resources and Operations Department. This role is critical to supporting the organisation’s people strategy, strengthening HR systems, and ensuring compliance with labour laws, donor requirements, and internal policies. Position Overview The Human Resources Officer provides both operational and strategic HR support across the organisation. Reporting to the Head of Finance & Operations, the role is responsible for managing end-to-end HR processes, supporting staff performance and development, ensuring workplace safety compliance, and supervising operations and administrative staff. This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, with immediate availability preferred. The successful candidate will be offered a three-year renewable contract, subject to performance and availability of funds. Key Position Details Job Grade: C Upper Salary: USD 1,500 per month plus benefits Department: Human Resources & Operations Contract Duration: 3 years, renewable Duty Station: Nairobi, Kenya Availability: Immediate Key Responsibilities Human Resources Operations Manage the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, contract administration, probation management, confirmations, and staff exits Coordinate recruitment processes for both core organisational roles and project-funded positions Oversee workforce planning to ensure staffing needs align with organisational and programme priorities Leave, Attendance, and Compliance Administer leave and attendance systems in line with AAS policies, Kenyan labour laws, and donor requirements Ensure accurate HR records and compliance documentation are maintained at all times Performance Management and Staff Development Coordinate and manage organisational performance management cycles Train staff and managers on performance management tools and processes Monitor implementation and recommend improvements to enhance effectiveness and accountability Policies, Employee Relations, and Governance Develop, review, and implement HR policies and procedures aligned with organisational governance frameworks and strategic objectives Champion best HR practices across the organisation Support employee relations matters, including disciplinary processes and grievance management Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) Lead OSHA compliance initiatives, including workplace risk assessments and safety inspections Coordinate staff sensitisation and training on health and safety standards Leadership and Administration Provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to operations and administrative staff Foster a positive, inclusive, and professional workplace culture Reporting and Staff Welfare Prepare HR reports, analytics, and management information for decision-making and compliance purposes Design and implement a comprehensive staff welfare programme to support employee wellbeing and engagement This role may include additional responsibilities aligned with the HR function as organisational needs evolve. Qualifications and Experience The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field Professional HR certification such as IHRM, CHRP, SHRM, or an equivalent qualification (mandatory) A minimum of 5–7 years of progressive HR experience, preferably within an NGO, international, research, or donor-funded organisation Strong working knowledge of Kenyan labour laws and HR best practices Key Competencies and Skills High levels of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism Proven ability to develop, implement, and champion HR policies and systems Demonstrated expertise in performance management and staff development Strong leadership and people management skills, including experience supervising operations or administrative teams Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, Pan-African environment Proficiency in HR information systems, performance management tools, leave and attendance systems, and Microsoft Office applications Strong commitment to inclusion, professionalism, and the mission and values of AAS Application Process Interested candidates are invited to submit their application by completing the required details through the provided application link and sending their CV to the official recruitment email address.
