The African Institute for Development Policy is a regional non-profit research and policy institute established in 2010 to bridge the gap between research, policy, and practice in Africa’s development landscape. With offices in Kenya and Malawi, and registration in the United States as a 501(c)(3) organization, AFIDEP works to institutionalize the use of evidence in policymaking. The institute focuses on five key thematic areas: Population Dynamics and Demographic Dividend Health and Wellbeing Transformative Education and Skills Development Environment and Climate Change Governance and Accountability Through research, advocacy, and capacity strengthening, AFIDEP contributes to sustainable development by promoting evidence-based decision-making, strengthening governance systems, and improving policy implementation across Africa. 1. Executive Assistant to the Executive Director AFIDEP is seeking a highly skilled Executive Assistant to support the Executive Director at its Malawi office. This role is strategic in nature, designed to enhance leadership effectiveness and ensure smooth coordination of executive functions. Role Overview The Executive Assistant serves as a key partner to the Executive Director, ensuring efficient management of priorities, communication, and institutional processes. The role enables informed decision-making and supports overall organisational performance. Key Responsibilities Manage the Executive Director’s schedule, correspondence, meetings, and travel Coordinate activities within the Executive Director’s Office Ensure follow-up on strategic commitments and delegated tasks Prepare and manage confidential reports, briefs, and presentations Organise Senior Management Team (SMT) meetings, including documentation and tracking action points Provide governance support to the Board of Directors Support internal and external engagements with high-quality communication materials Assist in resource mobilisation coordination Maintain efficient information and records management systems Uphold high standards of confidentiality and professionalism Qualifications and Experience Master’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Project Management, or related field Minimum of five years’ experience supporting senior executives Strong organisational, reporting, and coordination skills Excellent communication and time management abilities Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments Experience working in multicultural and multi-stakeholder settings Core Competencies High integrity and discretion Strategic thinking and attention to detail Proactive and solution-oriented mindset Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills 2. Communications and Policy Engagement Manager AFIDEP is also recruiting a Communications and Policy Engagement Manager to lead its communications and policy influence strategy. This role is central to enhancing the institute’s visibility and promoting the use of research evidence in policymaking. Role Overview The Manager will oversee the development and execution of innovative communication strategies that position AFIDEP as a leading policy institute in Africa. The role also focuses on strengthening the impact of research evidence in development processes. Key Responsibilities Communications, Visibility, and Profiling Develop and implement communication and policy engagement strategies Strengthen AFIDEP’s brand as a leader in evidence-based policymaking Lead the production of institutional publications (annual reports, newsletters, digital content) Support evidence synthesis and dissemination across key thematic areas Build relationships with media to promote evidence-informed public discourse Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation Establish and maintain partnerships with governments, donors, and research institutions Engage stakeholders and promote collaboration across sectors Contribute to fundraising through proposal and concept development Capacity Strengthening Support initiatives that enhance the use of research evidence in decision-making Strengthen both internal and external communication capacities Requirements Master’s degree in Communications, Media, International Relations, or related field At least 10 years of experience in development or science communication Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills Technical expertise in digital platforms, publications, and media engagement Deep understanding of policymaking and legislative processes Proven ability to translate research into policy influence and advocacy impact Experience working across African and global development contexts Application Process Interested candidates for both positions are required to submit: A motivation letter outlining suitability for the role A detailed CV, including three referees Applications must be sent via email to recruitment@afidep.org by April 17, 2026, clearly indicating the job title in the subject line.
