The College of Europe is inviting applications for the role of Academic Assistant within the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies at its Bruges campus. The position is available on both a part-time (50% FTE) and full-time (100% FTE) basis, with a start date scheduled for 17 August 2026. The role is situated within one of Europe’s most prestigious postgraduate institutions specialising in European studies. The Academic Assistant will contribute to teaching, research, and departmental administration in a highly international academic environment. About the College of Europe The College of Europe is recognised as the oldest postgraduate institute dedicated to European studies. It operates across three campuses: Bruges, Belgium (established in 1949) Natolin/Warsaw, Poland (established in 1992) Tirana, Albania (established in 2024) Each year, the institution welcomes approximately 500 students representing over 50 nationalities. These students participate in intensive 10-month residential Master’s programmes designed to deepen their understanding of European integration and international affairs. The College operates under the guiding principle of “studying and living Europe together,” reflecting its commitment to fostering intercultural dialogue and academic excellence. In addition to its Master’s programmes, the institution delivers executive education and specialised training for junior diplomats and public officials from EU member states and neighbouring regions. The College’s mission focuses on contributing to European integration and strengthening relations between the European Union and its international partners. Staff members are expected to actively support this mission through professionalism, collaboration, and academic dedication. Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies The Academic Assistant will be based in the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies, working under the supervision of the Director of Studies and in close collaboration with faculty and administrative staff. This department focuses on the study of: EU foreign policy and external relations Diplomatic practices and international negotiations Global governance and geopolitical developments EU institutional and policy frameworks Key Responsibilities The Academic Assistant will be expected to contribute across multiple academic and administrative areas. Core responsibilities include: Supporting Professors with organisational and academic tasks Delivering tutorials and assisting in teaching activities Providing academic guidance and feedback to students Assisting with departmental administration, including: Study trips Guest lectures and conferences Examination supervision Student selection processes Contributing to research activities and academic publications The role requires active participation in both the intellectual and operational life of the department. Candidate Profile The College of Europe is seeking candidates with strong academic credentials and a commitment to European studies. The ideal profile includes: A Master’s degree in EU Studies and/or International Relations Excellent academic performance (minimum average grade of 15/20 or equivalent) Strong knowledge of EU institutions and EU external action Excellent written and spoken command of English and French Strong teamwork and collaboration skills Interest in teaching, academic research, and student engagement Good organisational abilities and attention to detail High flexibility, including availability for evening or weekend activities when required Familiarity with the College of Europe and its academic environment is considered an advantage.
