Description

The Department of Land Reform and Rural Development (DLRRD) invites eligible applicants to apply for the lease of state-owned agricultural land in the Matzikama Local Municipality, located within the West Coast District Municipality in the Western Cape, South Africa. The invitation forms part of the department’s Beneficiary Selection and Land Allocation Policy and State Land Lease and Disposal Policy, which aim to support historically disadvantaged farmers and expand access to agricultural land for productive use. Property Description The available agricultural property consists of several farm portions combined into a single leasing opportunity: Portion 0 of Farm Roode Kloof No. 57 – 2,933.9276 hectares Portion 0 of Farm Tafelberg Extension 1 No. 60 – 1,610.7285 hectares Portion 3 of Farm Bezondermeid No. 61 – 1,712.6558 hectares Title Deed: T18182/1996 Total Farm Extent: 6,257.3119 hectares Location Coordinates: Latitude: -31.882855 Longitude: 18.467917 Land Parcel Identification Numbers (LPID): 457153 457154 457155 The property is primarily suited for livestock farming, particularly sheep and goat production. Current Farm Use The farm is currently used for livestock production with the following capacity: Livestock Type: Sheep Small Stock Units (SSU): 694 Carrying Capacity: 54 hectares per Large Stock Unit (LSU) 9 hectares per Small Stock Unit (SSU) The farm is categorized under Category 3 lessees, intended for farming enterprises with an annual turnover between R1,000,000 and R10,000,000. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must meet the following requirements to qualify: Must be African, Indian, or Coloured South African citizens (including individuals from the First Nations of South Africa). Must be 18 years or older with a valid South African bar-coded identity document. Priority will be given to: Women Youth People with disabilities Small-scale farmers Applicants must indicate their current farming location, such as communal or commonage land, if applicable. The successful applicant must be willing to reside on the farm full-time during the lease period. Applicants must demonstrate available farming resources or access to resources such as: Capital Equipment Biological assets (e.g., livestock) 3–5 years of farming experience will be considered an advantage. Note: Government employees and politicians holding public office are not eligible to apply. Mandatory Documents Applicants must submit the following documents as part of their application: Completed application form with all required details. Certified copy of the applicant’s South African ID (for natural persons). For juristic persons: Registration certificate of the legal entity Resolution appointing a representative Share register Signed declaration form confirming the applicant is not a public servant or public office bearer. Proof of livestock branding certificate registered in the applicant’s name. Evidence of farming resources or access to resources such as: Capital Equipment Livestock assets Mechanisation Selection and Evaluation Process The selection process will include several stages to ensure that suitable candidates are chosen for the lease. Key steps include: Shortlisted applicants will be required to submit a detailed business proposal or farm plan. Applicants from priority groups may be invited to farm orientation sessions and evaluation interviews. Shortlisted candidates must make available their livestock, farming machinery, and equipment for verification. Successful applicants will undergo a skills assessment to identify training needs. The department may provide additional training and capacity-building support to successful candidates. Applicants who do not receive feedback within 90 days after the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. Correspondence will only be sent to successful candidates.
