Overview The Department of Psychology at the University of Warwick is offering up to three fully funded PhD Fellowships for students beginning doctoral study in October 2026. These competitive fellowships are open to UK and international applicants and are designed to support high-quality doctoral research aligned with the department’s strategic research priorities. The fellowships are available exclusively for projects supervised by: Dr Alice Chan Dr Matthew Mak Dr Marina Mendonca Applicants must ensure their research proposal demonstrates a strong fit with the expertise and interests of one of the named supervisors. Fellowship Summary Qualification type: PhD in Psychology Institution: University of Warwick Location: Coventry, United Kingdom Study mode: Full-time or Part-time (60%) Start date: October 2026 Number of awards: Up to three Reference: Psychology PhD Fellowships 2026 Funding and Financial Support Each fellowship provides funding for three years (pro rata for part-time study) and includes: UK Home tuition fees paid in full £5,206 for 2026/27 (part-time £3,124*) Annual maintenance stipend £21,300 per year (part-time £12,780*) Research cost support Access to a wide range of professional development and training opportunities International students are welcome to apply; however, tuition fees are covered at the UK Home rate only. *Part-time study is based on 60% intensity.**Tuition fees and stipends from 2026/27 onward are subject to confirmation and may increase in line with RCUK funding rates. Eligibility Requirements Applicants must meet the following academic criteria: A minimum Upper Second Class (2:1) undergraduate degree in Psychology or a closely related discipline Preference will be given to candidates with: A First Class undergraduate degree, or A Master’s degree with distinction in Psychology or a related field International qualifications equivalent to UK standards are accepted. Successful international applicants must also meet the English language requirements for Psychology, which is classified as a B and B subject at Warwick. Applicants are advised to review individual project descriptions for any project-specific skills or experience requirements. Application Process Each candidate may submit only one application. Applicants without an existing Warwick PhD application must apply via the University’s Postgraduate Admissions portal:https://warwick.ac.uk/pgapply Applicants with an existing PhD application should complete the Departmental Fellowship application form:https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/psych/fellowships/applications In the “Finance and Funding” section of the application, applicants must indicate that they wish to be considered for a Departmental PhD Fellowship and must clearly name their proposed supervisor. Required Application Documents All applications must include the following three core documents: Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages) Cover letter (maximum 2 pages), outlining: Motivation for doctoral study Relevant academic background and research experience Suitability for the proposed project Research proposal (maximum 2,000 words) The research proposal should be well-structured and persuasive, clearly demonstrating: The academic importance and originality of the research topic Feasibility within the PhD timeframe Alignment with the proposed supervisor’s research interests Evidence of the applicant’s skills and experience to deliver the project Applicants may include up to three figures and an end-of-proposal reference list, which is excluded from the word count. Assessment and Selection Applications are assessed primarily on: Quality and clarity of the research proposal Academic excellence and research potential Fit between the applicant, the project, and the proposed supervisor Shortlisted candidates may be contacted for further information or interview, depending on departmental requirements.
