Location: NSW, VIC, NT, QLDEmployment Type: Permanent, Full-Time (Part-Time Considered)Reports to: General CounselDirect Reports: 0Leadership Band: Leads OthersDate: October 2025 Role Purpose The Legal Counsel is a key member of the Enabling Services team, accountable for supporting the General Counsel in delivering legal services across The Foundation’s global operations. This role requires the provision of timely, practical, and strategic legal advice, ensuring all activities are aligned with The Foundation’s Values and Strategy. Operating across 25+ countries, the Legal Counsel will contribute to the delivery of high-quality legal support in areas including contracts, employment law, intellectual property, corporate governance, and cross-border initiatives. Key Responsibilities Legal Advisory Provide effective and practical legal advice to the business, reviewing and advising on contracts, corporate matters, intellectual property, and regulatory obligations. Support global employment law matters, engaging external counsel where necessary. Advise on legal considerations for change initiatives, including entering or exiting jurisdictions and monitoring relevant local legislation. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure legal risk management is integrated into projects. Project and Stakeholder Collaboration Work closely with project teams on legal aspects, coordinating with external legal, accounting, regulatory, and industry partners when required. Ensure that legal advice supports The Foundation’s operational and strategic objectives while protecting its reputation globally. Collaborate within the Legal, Governance, Risk & Compliance team to enhance delivery of services and knowledge sharing. Governance and Compliance Contribute to governance and compliance initiatives, ensuring that The Foundation adheres to local and international laws. Participate in the review and enhancement of internal legal processes and frameworks. Maintain awareness of legal developments in key jurisdictions to inform risk management and strategic decision-making. Other Responsibilities Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the General Counsel. Ensure all work is conducted in ways that safeguard the health and safety of staff and stakeholders. Uphold The Foundation’s policies, values, and standards in all interactions. Required Experience Minimum of 5–7+ years post-qualification experience (PQE) in Australia or another common law jurisdiction. Proven experience with cross-border commercial initiatives. Strong knowledge and practical experience in employment law within complex organisational structures. Demonstrated ability to work independently in an agile and diverse environment while managing multiple priorities. Skills and Attributes Accountable, proactive, and eager to understand The Foundation’s work and impact. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal information clearly. Ability to balance multiple responsibilities and navigate conflicts effectively in a small legal team. Resilient, flexible, and able to thrive in a fast-changing environment across multiple jurisdictions. Passionate about providing legal services in support of a dynamic, international development organisation. Desirable Experience Hands-on experience in contracts, cross-border transactions, corporate governance, and change projects. Exposure to key international jurisdictions including Hong Kong, Singapore, UK, or US. Background in international governance and top-tier law firm experience. Experience autonomously providing legal services in-house. Qualifications Tertiary qualification in law. Current NSW practicing certificate or equivalent. Additional Information Travel: Not currently required but may occur on an ad hoc basis. Child Contact: This position is recognised as having direct or indirect contact with children. Eligibility to work in Australia and relevant international jurisdictions is required. Successful candidates must complete background checks, including criminal record, qualifications verification, and a working with children check.
