The International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) is seeking a Major Gifts Officer to join its Development team in New York City. Position Overview The Major Gifts Officer will play a central role in expanding philanthropic support for ICTJ’s mission. The role focuses on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major individual donors and family foundations. The officer will also support the Director of Development in managing relationships with top-tier donors and prospects. This position operates on a hybrid schedule and is based in New York City. Candidates must have legal authorisation to work in the United States. Key Responsibilities The Major Gifts Officer will manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects capable of contributing between $5,000 and $25,000 annually. Responsibilities span the full donor lifecycle. Portfolio Management Oversee and grow a portfolio of individual donors and prospects Guide donors through discovery, engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship phases Develop and execute personalised engagement strategies Donor Engagement & Events Launch and implement an annual donor engagement strategy under the supervision of the Director of Development Plan and produce annual benefit and cultivation events Collaborate with communications colleagues on collateral development and event execution Establish meaningful donor touchpoints, including meetings and tailored ICTJ content delivery Strategic Support & Collaboration Assist the Director of Development in managing top donors and foundation prospects Conduct prospect research, rating, and prioritisation to grow the fundraising pipeline Maintain detailed donor records and contact reports in the CRM system Track donor interactions and engagement strategies Cross-Functional Coordination Partner with programme and finance teams to prepare proposals, stewardship reports, and donor presentations Collaborate with executive leadership on cultivation and solicitation strategies Support donor briefings and correspondence Additional Duties Undertake other development-related tasks and projects as assigned Contribute to organisational fundraising goals and strategy implementation Qualifications and Requirements Education Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (required) Master’s degree (preferred) Professional Experience Minimum of four years of fundraising experience Experience in international affairs or related sectors preferred Demonstrated success in managing donor portfolios and achieving fundraising targets Technical Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Experience using CRM systems such as Raiser’s Edge Familiarity with prospect research tools such as Kindsight, iWave, and Candid Core Competencies Proven ability to independently manage projects and collaborate within a team Capacity to work effectively in complex, fast-paced environments Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines Excellent written and oral communication skills Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information Enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment to ICTJ’s mission Compensation and Benefits Salary Range: $65,000–$85,000 annually (commensurate with experience) ICTJ offers a competitive benefits package, including: Medical, dental, and vision coverage (90% employer-funded options available) Life insurance (1x annual salary) Employee Assistance Program (EAP) 403(b) retirement plan with 2.5% employer match Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Paid Time Off package: 20 vacation days 13 paid holidays 5 personal days Application Process Qualified candidates are invited to complete the official application form through ICTJ’s careers portal.
