The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a Senior Caseworker – Roving to support its Home Study and Post-Release Services (HSPRS) program for unaccompanied children across the United States. This fully remote, full-time position is based out of New York, NY HQ and forms part of a 36-month contract ending September 30, 2026. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC operates in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities, delivering humanitarian assistance that restores safety, dignity, and hope to people affected by crisis and displacement. Programme Overview: Home Study and Post-Release Services (HSPRS) The HSPRS programme supports unaccompanied children released from the custody of the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement. Operating in more than 17 offices nationwide, this multi-million-dollar initiative aims to: Assess sponsor suitability prior to a child’s release (Home Study) Provide ongoing case management after release (Post-Release Services) Ensure child safety, stability, and successful community integration The Senior Caseworker (Level 2) plays a central role in evaluating sponsor capacity, supporting children’s well-being, and delivering trauma-informed case management services. Key Responsibilities The Senior Caseworker is responsible for comprehensive, child-centered case management, including: Home Study & Assessment Conduct in-person home visits to assess sponsor suitability Complete comprehensive reports within 10 days of referral Interview shelter case managers, clinicians, sponsors, minors, and household members Conduct validated mental health assessments Post-Release Case Management Conduct initial in-home assessments Maintain regular weekly or monthly contact for six months (minimum in-person visits at 14, 90, and 180 days) Develop individualized, strengths-based service plans Monitor safety, behavioral changes, and well-being Crisis Intervention & Safeguarding Develop safety plans in partnership with crisis support teams Coordinate with Child Protective Services, law enforcement, and community stakeholders when necessary Apply trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate approaches Maintain strict confidentiality and mandatory reporting compliance Resource Navigation & Referrals Facilitate access to essential services, including: Legal and immigration support Education and English language instruction Medical and behavioral healthcare Guardianship proceedings Family stabilization and counseling Substance abuse treatment Youth mentoring, tutoring, and extracurricular programs Cultural heritage and integration services Administrative & Documentation Maintain accurate electronic case files Submit reports and documentation promptly Track referral outcomes and case progress Build and sustain relationships with community service providers The role requires national travel up to 70%, flexible scheduling (including evenings and weekends), and a private remote workspace. Qualifications & Experience Applicants must meet the following requirements: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or related behavioral sciences Minimum two years of relevant experience (or one year with a master’s degree) Experience in child welfare, family reunification, foster care, kinship care, or home studies Experience working with immigrant populations; experience with unaccompanied minors preferred Fluency in Spanish and English (written and verbal) Knowledge of local social service systems Strong cross-cultural communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, and Zoom Valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle Candidates must obtain ORR approval and pass child abuse/neglect background checks and FBI fingerprint clearance. Compensation & Benefits Pay Range: $25.00 – $31.73 per hour (U.S.-based candidates) Compensation is determined by location, experience, internal equity, and budget considerations.
