The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is recruiting an Engagement Manager to support its Nature for Water Facility (N4W), a flagship initiative within the Resilient Watersheds Strategy that helps develop sustainable watershed investment programmes across Africa. This is a full-time remote position available in multiple African countries, including Kenya, South Africa, Zambia, Angola, Gabon and Tanzania. About the Nature for Water Facility The Nature for Water Facility is a technical assistance platform that works alongside governments, utilities, businesses and local partners to design and implement watershed investment programmes. Its ambition is to support more than 50 “lighthouse landscapes” by 2030, strengthening water security through nature-based solutions. The programme combines scientific expertise, financial analysis and stakeholder engagement to develop practical investment strategies that restore watersheds while delivering environmental, social and economic benefits. About the Role The Engagement Manager will work closely with a Science Manager to jointly lead place-based watershed projects across diverse African landscapes. The position combines project management, stakeholder engagement, financial modelling and strategic planning to support the development of resilient water investment programmes. The successful candidate will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, engage government and private-sector stakeholders, develop business cases and return-on-investment analyses, and help establish sustainable financing mechanisms for watershed conservation initiatives. The position involves approximately 15% domestic and international travel. Key Responsibilities The Engagement Manager will oversee the successful delivery of complex watershed investment projects by coordinating technical experts and managing project implementation from planning through delivery. Core responsibilities include: Defining project scope and implementation plans Leading multidisciplinary project teams Managing timelines and project deliverables Engaging governments, communities and strategic stakeholders Developing financial and economic appraisals Building financial models and investment cases Assessing ecosystem service benefits and programme costs Supporting governance and sustainable funding strategies Presenting findings to clients, partners and conference audiences Contributing to knowledge products and thought leadership publications Mentoring project staff and providing technical guidance The role requires strong collaboration across scientific, financial, institutional and environmental disciplines to design scalable nature-based solutions. Minimum Qualifications Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, political science, international development or a related field together with at least six years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must also demonstrate: Experience leading complex projects or strategic initiatives Strong financial modelling and business evaluation skills Supervisory or team leadership experience Excellent written and spoken English Preferred Qualifications The Nature Conservancy is particularly interested in candidates with: Seven or more years of experience in project finance, capital markets or management consultancy A graduate degree in business, environmental economics, engineering or environmental management Experience designing or implementing Nature-based Solutions Knowledge of watershed conservation and water security Proficiency in Swahili, French or Portuguese Experience working in multicultural, interdisciplinary and remote teams The organisation values professionals who are self-motivated, collaborative and capable of synthesising complex technical information into practical solutions for diverse audiences.
