The United Nations is offering an internship opportunity in Human Resources Administration at its duty station in The Hague. This six-month internship provides hands-on experience in HR management, administrative support, and office operations within an international organization. Applications are open until 8 May 2026. Internship Overview The HR Intern will work closely with the Administrative and Personnel Division (APD) team under the supervision of the Associate Administrative and HR Officer and the guidance of the Head of Division. This role provides practical exposure to HR operations, filing systems, and administrative processes essential to the functioning of a global institution. Key Duties and Responsibilities 1. HR Filing System Redesign and Organization: Classify personnel files and documents using an established filing system (alphabetical, numerical, or subject-wise). Develop a File Page Index for each folder to facilitate document retrieval. Reorganize hard-copy and soft-copy records on OneDrive according to the approved filing system. Identify incomplete files and collaborate with HR staff to retrieve missing documents. Reorganize office shelves and cabinets for efficient space management. Draft and propose a filing routine to ensure all new documents are properly stored and indexed. Ensure consistent filing of all documents received, created, or sent during the internship period. 2. Administrative Support to HR Team: Assist in recruitment, selection, and onboarding of staff. Draft routine correspondences including emails, memos, letters, appointment letters, and employment certificates. Handle staff queries by maintaining a log and following up with relevant colleagues. Compile data for reports, policies, and strategic HR documents. Contribute to the ICJ HR Digest Quarterly newsletter, including drafting content. Organize APD meetings, workshops, and information-sharing sessions, ensuring logistical arrangements. Take minutes during meetings and maintain accurate records. Update and create content for the ICJ APD intranet pages using information from policies, circulars, and other sources. Perform other assigned tasks as necessary. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must meet one of the following: Enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or PhD program, or Graduated within the past two years Preferred educational backgrounds (considered assets): Business Administration Information Science or Records Management Library & Documentation Office Management and Secretarial Studies Language Requirements: Excellent command of English or French (official UN languages) Knowledge of the other language is an added advantage Additional Information UN internships are unpaid. Travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution. Interns may need appropriate visas or work authorization if not citizens or permanent residents of the host country. No fees are charged at any stage of the recruitment process by the UN.
