Introduction UK-Med, one of the world’s most active Emergency Medical Teams, continues to respond to some of the most complex global humanitarian emergencies. As disasters, conflict, and disease outbreaks intensify, UK-Med deploys rapid-response medical teams to deliver lifesaving care and reinforce overstretched health systems. Over the past three decades, the organisation has grown from a small group of volunteer clinicians to a respected global medical response leader, working across crises in Ukraine, Gaza, Turkey, West Africa, and numerous other locations. The UK-Med Register is central to this mission, providing a highly skilled pool of health and humanitarian professionals who can deploy at short notice. Register members are experienced clinicians, public health specialists, logisticians, and technical experts who support medical responses, training, capacity building, and emergency preparedness. The Register includes over 1,000 professionals worldwide, ensuring UK-Med can rapidly assemble teams that meet WHO EMT standards and deliver high-quality care under challenging conditions. Role Overview UK-Med is seeking an experienced Data Manager to strengthen health information systems and ensure high-quality data management across emergency medical responses. Acting as the focal point for all data needs, the Data Manager plays a critical role in enabling evidence-based decision-making, supporting clinical teams, and ensuring compliance with Ministry of Health, WHO, and internal reporting standards. This register-based position requires full-time deployment availability for 6–8 weeks at a time, often in high-pressure humanitarian settings such as Ukraine or other UK-Med response locations. Longer availability is highly desirable. Key Responsibilities The Data Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining robust data management processes that enable accurate collection, analysis, reporting, and monitoring of health information. Core duties include: Developing assessments and action plans for data management systems that align with emergency response objectives and minimum data requirements. Designing, reviewing, and adapting data collection tools to reflect project indicators and needs. Leading the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures for data management and documentation. Providing technical support to medical teams, data clerks, and field personnel to ensure consistent and high-quality data flows. Training staff on data collection processes, data quality assurance, and information security requirements. Conducting detailed analysis of health data to inform programme direction and support clinical decision-making. Preparing weekly and monthly data analysis summaries in collaboration with Medical Coordinators and MEAL teams. Participating in internal and external meetings, contributing to continuous improvement of health information systems. Ensuring that all data processes uphold patient confidentiality, protection standards, and relevant safeguarding policies. The role also involves supporting HR-related processes for field data teams—such as recruitment, induction, evaluation, and coaching—as required by the in-country Medical Coordinator. Person Specification The ideal candidate brings a combination of strong technical expertise, emergency response experience, and a deep commitment to humanitarian values. Qualifications & Technical Skills A degree (or equivalent experience) in Epidemiology, Public Health, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Proficiency in statistical methods, database management, advanced data visualisation, and GIS. Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesise complex datasets under tight deadlines. Knowledge of data protection principles in humanitarian contexts and familiarity with WHO and MoH reporting systems. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages such as Arabic, French, Portuguese, or Spanish are an advantage. Experience & Attributes Minimum three years’ relevant experience in data management, preferably within humanitarian or health-emergency settings. Demonstrated ability to support multiple facilities, mobile clinics, or field hospitals with efficient data systems. Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently in challenging environments. A proactive, problem-solving approach and willingness to deploy internationally at short notice. High personal integrity, strong commitment to safeguarding, and cultural sensitivity. Terms and Conditions Remuneration: Up to £3,500 per month, depending on response location and experience. Deployment Duration: Typically 6–8 weeks per deployment. Working Hours: Full time, with required evening and weekend work during emergency operations. Annual Leave: Equivalent to 33 days per year (or an uplift where leave cannot be taken in deployment contexts). Clearances: All deployments require medical fitness clearance and comprehensive vetting, including DBS/police checks and sanctions screening. How to Apply Candidates are invited to submit a current CV and a supporting letter of no more than two pages. The letter should directly address the essential criteria in the person specification. Applications must be submitted through UK-Med’s online portal. This is a rolling recruitment process, and applications will be reviewed as they are received. Early submission is strongly encouraged.
