globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

April 30, 2026

Description

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is now accepting applications for the Conscious Food Systems Alliance (CoFSA) Convening and Community Intern position, based in Panama City, Panama, with the flexibility of remote engagement. This full-time internship provides a unique opportunity for students and recent graduates passionate about sustainable food systems, community engagement, and systems change. The internship runs for six months, offering practical experience in supporting global initiatives that aim to transform food and agricultural systems. About UNDP and CoFSA UNDP is the UN’s leading organization for sustainable development, integrating global policy insights with local expertise to help countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) supports UNDP’s Strategic Plan by advising country offices, advocating for corporate messages, and representing UNDP in multistakeholder dialogues. Within BPPS, the Nature, Climate Change, Energy, and Waste Hubs focus on crosscutting initiatives that promote resilient governance, inclusive growth, and environmental sustainability. Food Systems play a central role in UNDP’s approach to sustainable development. They are critical to the health, livelihoods, and economic stability of the 170 countries UNDP supports, yet global food systems face urgent challenges, including climate change, ecosystem degradation, food insecurity, and inequitable access to resources. The Conscious Food Systems Alliance (CoFSA), convened by UNDP, is a global network of over 400 members and 3,000 followers working to cultivate inner capacities and systemic thinking for food systems transformation. Launched publicly in 2022, CoFSA brings together practitioners, partners, and changemakers to explore sustainable, equitable, and regenerative approaches to food and agriculture. Internship Overview The CoFSA Convening & Community Intern will report to the CoFSA Community Analyst and support operational, logistical, and community-focused activities in preparation for the first-ever Global Conscious Food Systems Summit, scheduled for Bhutan in 2026. This internship provides hands-on experience in international program coordination, community engagement, and systems-level work within a global policy context. Key Responsibilities: Summit Planning & Logistics: Assist with planning timelines, workplans, and follow-ups. Support coordination calls, webinars, and virtual or hybrid meetings. Prepare presentations, briefing notes, meeting minutes, and background documents. Maintain shared collaboration tools like Google Drive and Microsoft Teams. Community Engagement: Support stakeholder mapping, database management, and onboarding for CoFSA members and partners. Assist community working groups linked to Summit preparation. Research & Analysis: Conduct background research on potential donors, fundraising opportunities, and Summit-related topics. Analyze data and contribute insights to strengthen engagement strategies. Administrative Support: Assist with internship recruitment, candidate evaluation, CV management, and other administrative tasks related to CoFSA activities. Learning & Competency Development The internship fosters development in core competencies including: Results Orientation: Plan and monitor tasks, ensure quality outputs, and meet deadlines. Innovative Thinking: Apply creative problem-solving and pragmatic solutions to project challenges. Continuous Learning: Seek feedback, share knowledge, and remain open to new perspectives. Agility & Adaptability: Navigate ambiguity, adapt to change, and remain flexible. Collaboration & Inclusion: Demonstrate cultural sensitivity, form positive relationships, and uphold diversity principles. Eligibility & Required Qualifications Education: Enrolled in the final year of a bachelor’s degree or graduate program in journalism, communications, environment, agriculture, sustainable development, economics, international development, social sciences, or related fields. Recent graduates (within one year of degree completion) are eligible. Experience: Data collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation. Writing, editing, and communications skills. Exposure to sustainability or environmental initiatives is preferred. Languages: Fluency in English is required. Internship Conditions & Benefits The internship is gratis, with UNDP not providing a salary. A stipend may be offered in accordance with UNDP policy. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance and work setup if remote. UNDP provides workspace and equipment for in-person internships. This internship does not guarantee employment with UNDP post-internship. Interns cannot represent UNDP officially or act as substitutes for staff. Why Apply This internship offers a unique professional development opportunity for individuals eager to work at the intersection of food systems, sustainability, and systems change. Interns will engage directly with a global community of food systems practitioners, gain insight into large-scale Summit planning, and contribute to initiatives that aim to transform food and agricultural systems worldwide. Applicants from historically excluded or underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. UNDP values diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring all interns are empowered to contribute meaningfully to its mission of leaving no one behind. How to Apply Interested candidates should review the UNDP internship conditions at www.undp.org/internships and submit their application before April 10, 2026. Applications must include a CV and any additional documents as specified in the application portal. This internship is an ideal opportunity for those seeking hands-on experience in sustainable development, food systems transformation, and global policy engagement, while contributing to a worldwide movement committed to regenerative and equitable food systems.
