UNDP Seeks Nature Finance Specialist to Support Global Biodiversity Investment Initiatives The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced applications for the position of Project Specialist on Investable Nature Project Pipeline, offering experienced professionals the opportunity to support global biodiversity finance and private sector investment in nature-positive development. The position is home-based under an International Personnel Service Agreement (IPSA-10) for an initial one-year contract. Although administratively linked to Madrid, Spain, the successful candidate will work remotely while collaborating with UNDP teams and partners worldwide. Applications close on 29 July 2026. About the Role: Project Specialist on Investable Nature Project Pipeline The Project Specialist will join the UNDP Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) under the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS). The specialist will play a leading role in developing pipelines of investable nature-positive projects that attract private sector investment and accelerate biodiversity conservation efforts. Working closely with UNDP’s Nature Investment team, the successful candidate will support country offices in designing bankable conservation projects, engaging private investors, and strengthening biodiversity financing strategies. About BIOFIN Launched in 2012, the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) helps developing countries identify and implement innovative financing solutions for biodiversity conservation. The initiative now operates in more than 130 developing countries and has helped mobilize and realign approximately US$2.7 billion for biodiversity finance, with the potential to mobilize US$10 billion by 2030. BIOFIN supports governments in reviewing biodiversity finance policies, assessing funding needs, and developing national biodiversity finance plans that promote sustainable development. ALSO SEE: Business at OECD Policy Administration and Communications Internship 2026 in Paris, France: Paid Six Month Opportunity Key Responsibilities The Project Specialist will provide global technical leadership across several areas, including: Developing standardized investment frameworks for nature-positive projects. Supporting country teams in preparing bankable biodiversity investment pipelines. Designing blended finance and private investment solutions. Providing technical guidance on conservation finance methodologies. Building partnerships with financial institutions, investors, and private sector organizations. Developing guidance for enabling private sector investment in biodiversity. Supporting the integration of private finance into BIOFIN methodologies. Coordinating with international organizations and development finance partners. Supporting Nature Finance and Private Sector Engagement The role will also focus on improving the enabling environment for private investment by: Designing national private sector engagement strategies. Identifying policy and regulatory barriers to nature finance. Assessing investment risks and financing opportunities. Supporting national working groups on biodiversity finance. Mapping investment opportunities for conservation projects. The specialist will contribute to strengthening collaboration between governments, development banks, investors, and conservation stakeholders. Global Platform Development As part of the assignment, the successful candidate will help design an international investment matchmaking platform that connects nature-positive projects with potential investors. Responsibilities include: Developing the platform’s overall concept and roadmap. Identifying technical requirements. Supporting investor engagement strategies. Coordinating with organizations including development finance institutions and environmental finance partners. Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing The specialist will also: Deliver training workshops for country teams. Build capacity on investment pipeline development. Produce policy briefs, reports, and case studies. Document lessons learned for replication across BIOFIN countries. These activities will support knowledge exchange and strengthen biodiversity finance globally. Eligibility Requirements Applicants must possess: A Master’s degree in Management, Finance, Economics, or a related field with at least five years of relevant professional experience; or A Bachelor’s degree in a related field with seven years of relevant experience. Required Experience Candidates should demonstrate experience in: Sustainable finance. Development finance. Private equity. Impact investing. Nature, climate, or environmental finance. Developing pipelines of bankable projects in developing countries. Working with private investors and financial institutions. Structuring blended finance solutions. Experience working with UNDP or another international organization is considered an advantage. Additional experience in sectors such as agriculture, forestry, fisheries, tourism, or water resource management is also desirable. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish will be considered an added advantage.
