UNEP CTCN Call for Climate Adaptation Innovations in Asia Pacific with Up to USD 150,000 in Technical Assistance
globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

August 18, 2026

Description

The United Nations Climate Technology Centre and Network (UN CTCN) has launched a new call for proposals under the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA), inviting organisations across the Asia-Pacific region to submit innovative climate adaptation solutions. The initiative aims to accelerate locally led innovations that strengthen resilience to climate change while providing technical expertise rather than direct financial grants. Applications are open until 7 October 2026, with all countries in the Asia-Pacific region eligible to participate. The programme particularly encourages applications from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), recognising their heightened vulnerability to climate impacts. Through the AFCIA programme, UN CTCN will select up to 10 projects, with each successful proposal receiving technical assistance worth up to USD 150,000. The support is intended to help organisations pilot innovative climate adaptation solutions, strengthen institutional capacity, access specialised expertise, and facilitate knowledge exchange that can improve long-term project sustainability. Unlike conventional funding programmes, AFCIA does not provide direct cash grants. Instead, selected organisations receive tailored technical support designed to develop, refine and implement their climate adaptation innovations. This approach enables innovators to access expert knowledge, build partnerships and strengthen implementation capacity while advancing practical solutions to climate risks. According to the call, priority will be given to projects demonstrating strong innovation, sustainability and the potential to deliver transformative, locally driven climate adaptation outcomes. The programme seeks solutions capable of addressing real-world climate challenges while offering opportunities for replication and scaling across the region. Eligible applicants include organisations based in developing countries that have officially nominated a National Designated Entity (NDE) to the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism. Applicants may come from a broad range of sectors, including government institutions, universities, research centres, non-governmental organisations, private-sector companies and other eligible organisations working on climate adaptation. Prospective applicants are advised to carefully review the application instructions, guiding questions and selection criteria before submitting their proposals. These documents outline the programme’s expectations and assessment framework, helping organisations prepare competitive applications aligned with AFCIA objectives. To help interested applicants better understand the opportunity, UN CTCN will also host an online information webinar on 22 July 2026, where participants can learn more about eligibility requirements, the application process and the types of climate adaptation innovations being sought. The latest call forms part of UN CTCN’s broader efforts to strengthen climate resilience through innovation by supporting practical, locally led adaptation initiatives capable of delivering measurable impacts across vulnerable communities in the Asia-Pacific region.
